Tutor – Woodland Management & Woodcraft
40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
FTE Salary £24,717.30 – £31,941.94 per annum
(subject to teaching qualifications and relevant experience)
The post holder will be working with a small group of students, delivering woodland-based qualifications, woodland management skills and other land & craft-based activities including green woodwork and primitive technology experiences throughout the seasons and be an active member of the woodland team. Willingness to work outdoors and feeling comfortable in all weathers, as well as working with hand-tools and having experience working with machinery including chainsaws, is required (in-house training/guidance can be provided).
Applicants for this post should have experience of working with young people and vulnerable adults with special needs, challenging behaviours and mental health difficulties and have a teaching qualification or a willingness to work towards this. An appreciation of Biodynamic principles is required; however, training will be provided, as the applicant will take part in the Ruskin Mill Trust Biodynamic Training Programme (2 years).
The post holder must hold, or be working towards, or prepared to work towards relevant teaching qualifications in accordance with government regulations.
Key Duties
1. Delivering teaching and training with a therapeutic and supportive approach, wherever possible linking students' learning activities through a methodology of the Trust, Practical Skills Therapeutic Education.
2. To be a part of ongoing assessment of students' learning needs and to make reasonable adjustments as required minimizing barriers to learning and achievement.
3. To familiarize with student background information, profile and risk assessment wherever reasonably possible.
4. You will be expected to attend training sessions as required by the Trust, which may be outside of your usual working hours.
5. To work with the Woodlands Senior Tutor and RMC Land Manager to manage the day-to-day running of the Woodland Centre, Park Wood and any adjacent college woodland areas with regards to managing the land, the care and the development of infrastructure, (public) footpaths, hedges, trees and wild areas. Processing of raw materials for the green wood workshop.
