Job Purpose
We are looking for a Head of Engineering to lead the engineering function for one of our workstreams, which covers a specific area of our technology landscape. Helping us rapidly grow the business and build market share in the UK and emerging new territories. You will be responsible for all Software Engineering and Quality Assurance colleagues and processes in that workstream.
Job Duties
1. Lead the execution of engineering best practices within one of Betfred’s workstreams.
2. Ensure we have the right capabilities and skills amongst engineers to support and maintain healthy environments, enabling frequent release cadences through automation.
3. Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
4. Ensure teams are correctly sized, resourced, and that process is established, measured and continuously improved.
5. Provide process guidance to the product teams, ensuring maximised throughput and reduced defects.
6. Support the DevOps culture ways of working, ensuring teams have the necessary skills and capabilities.
7. Line manage the Engineering Managers in your workstream.
8. Work closely with support and other technology functions to ensure effective 3rd line support.
9. Support Betfred objectives and help define the goals and strategies for engineering teams.
10. Report back to senior management on engineering personnel, process improvements, and impediments.
11. Encourage learning activities and identify knowledge gaps for training.
12. Champion technical requirements within your workstream necessary to implement Betfred’s Technology Strategy.
13. Share learnings and achievements with other streams to level up the organisation.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
1. Proven ability to scale engineering teams in a high-growth business.
2. Up-to-date understanding of modern Software Engineering.
3. Strong focus on Quality Assurance best practices across teams.
4. Experience with Continuous Integration and Deployments.
5. Experience with complex systems in a fast-paced environment.
6. Excellent line management skills, including managing managers.
7. An agile mindset and willingness to optimise workstream for flow of change.
8. Great communication skills in public speaking and technical writing.
9. Metrics-driven approach for effective value delivery.
Qualifications
1. 5+ years of engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a senior management role.
2. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
What is in it for me?
