Job Introduction
Based in BBC Cardiff Central Square, you will bring your passion and experience of audio production and storytelling, as well as knowledge of live music production, to be part of a team making a wide range of classical music and arts output for BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 3, BBC World Service, BBC Radio Wales and BBC Sounds.
You will primarily be working on Radio 3 strands such as Composer of the Week, Lunchtime Concerts and In Concert, where you will be responsible for the development, research, setting up, scripting, recording, editing and delivery of these programmes.
You will also be expected to develop and pitch arts and music features to Radio 3, Radio 4 and the World Service.
Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities
* To develop and pitch ideas for multi-platform content;
* To produce distinctive content on a variety of platforms using a range of specialist production skills;
* To ensure content reflects our diverse audiences;
* To keep up to date with emerging industry trends;
* To work effectively with other departments, suppliers & partners (internal & external) ensuring the BBC maintains excellent relationships throughout;
* To manage the budgets and resources within the agreed parameters;
* Develop and manage positive working relationships with staff, contributors and talent and be able to give constructive feedback;
* Seek improvements in content production to develop further efficiencies in working practices;
* To work within BBC compliance policies, including Editorial guidelines, referring on matters of potential controversy;
* May present programmes on radio, TV or other media. Presenting duties will be additional to your normal role and will never be as much as 80% of your role;
* To be accountable for working within the BBC Legal and Health & Safety policies and guidelines.
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
* To research and provide script outlines for presenters, primarily for Composer of the Week, with oversight from a senior producer;
* To arrange and oversee studio and on-location recordings, with oversight from a senior producer;
* To produce concert recordings and live broadcasts, on location for strands such as Classical Live and In Concert;
* To originate, develop and produce content for our classical music strands and arts features on a variety of platforms, working closely with other members of the Audio Drama, Arts and Classical Music team;
* To work closely with both regular and freelance presenters;
* To oversee the edit, post-production and delivery of our programmes;
* To develop, pitch, research, record and script arts and music content, such as individual features;
* To exercise excellent editorial judgement and to ensure that output complies with BBC Editorial Guidelines;
* To ensure all content is of a first class standard: thoroughly researched and accurate, in keeping with audience needs and expectations;
* To ensure that output complies with technical, design and accessibility standards, and that BBC Health and Safety policy is observed;
* To work within budget and to deadlines, efficiently managing resources and recording schedules;
* To work effectively with other departments, suppliers & partners (internal & external) ensuring the BBC maintains excellent relationships throughout;
* To be technically proficient to the requirements of the role and a willingness to acquire new technical skills;
* To ensure BBC output reflects the needs of our audiences;
* To undertake administration duties relevant to the production’s smooth running;
* To develop ideas in response to creative briefs from commissioners and to seek out new presenting and contributor talent.
