Skills & Experience Required
To apply for the role of Principal Civil Engineer, the following are required:
1. Degree level qualification or equivalent experience
2. Membership of professional organisation
3. At least 7 years Transport Planning experience
4. Extensive Transport Planning experience, demonstrating practical and theoretical specialist knowledge
5. Experience in managing/training members of staff
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
7. Ability to prioritise workload and delegate tasks
8. Experience of working with computer-based systems including Microsoft programmes
9. Ability to work on own initiative
Principal Civil Engineer Role Specific Requirements
1. Write, check and approve technical reports such as Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans and Technical Notes
2. Good understanding of modelling packages and methodologies to calculate trip generation and distributions
3. Support preparation of and approve technical drawings where appropriate
4. Experience in preparing appeal documentation including Statement of Case, Statement of Common Ground and Proof of Evidence
5. Attendance as expert witness at appeal hearings and/or public inquiries
6. Project manage schemes, including budget and time management
7. Client liaison and management
8. Assist with training and mentoring members of staff to support their career development
9. Attend, contribute and lead towards meetings as appropriate
10. Prepare, check and issue fee proposals and tenders
11. Engage in, and identify, Business Development opportunities including networking events
12. Develop and inform Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and team strategies
13. Line management responsibility including holding appraisals
