Controls Engineer

£40,000 to £55,000 dependant on experience
We are looking for talented Controls Engineers to join our clients special purpose team. The successful candidate will play a key role in projects getting involved with the initial design of a project, moving onto program PLC, Robots & HMI systems to customer requirements, and completing projects by commissioning and testing on customer sites.
Key Responsibilities
1. Working with the Electrical design team to develop systems from an initial stage including component specification to business and customer requirements
2. Design and develop software solutions for complex and large-scale production systems
3. Troubleshoot and support existing installed systems
4. Ensure schedules are understood and workload is managed to meet objectives
5. Co-ordinating with Mechanical design team to ensure a deliverable solution is created to customer requirements
6. Implement company and external standards
7. Understanding of BS/ISO
8. Checking of work done by others
9. Understanding of Machine safety principles
10. Power up and configuration of hardware, checking quality of system matches company standards
11. Ensuring machine stands up to rigorous testing leading to a successful FAT & SAT
12. Working closely with Mechanical and Electrical assemblers/technicians during various stages of assembly and development of systems
Key Skills
1. Experience in Programming PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Omron, Siemens etc)
2. Creating User-friendly HMI interfaces
3. Proficient in understanding and interpreting Electrical and Mechanical drawings
4. Knowledge of integrating motion control/ actuators
5. Experience in delivering solutions to technical problems
6. Experience in creating and maintaining technical documents
7. Experience of technical projects including working to tight timescales throughout the project life cycle
8. Ability to provide quality information within deadlines
9. Team-player and ability to work on own initiative
10. Strong PC Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Outlook)
11. Strong verbal and written communication skills
12. Desired – experience with Robot programming (ABB, Omron, Yaskawa)
13. Desired – experience using and setting up vision systems (Keyence, Cognex)
Qualifications
Minimum HNC qualified in relevant electrical/mechanical discipline or significant industry experience
Working Hours
Monday – Thursday 08.00 – 17.00 (30 mins for lunch) Flexible if required.
Friday 08.00 – 14.00 (no lunch) Flexible if required.
Training /Development
Employees are encouraged to seek new skills either by specialist courses or if agreed day release courses.
