As part of this investment we are seeking an Environmental and Sustainability Project Manager (HSSE) who will manage environmental and sustainability projects from the inception to full implementation and evaluation.
Accountabilities
* Lead working groups, manage projects (e.g. Waste Recycling and Circular Economy, Decarbonisation etc), and collaborate with colleagues and external partners.
* Work with colleagues across the business to embed environment and sustainability considerations across our operations and work with procurement colleagues to align suppliers to our sustainability goals.
* Support the Environment and Energy Manager to deliver our environmental commitments, including our Net Zero Carbon Targets and emissions reduction roadmap, and Waste and Circularity.
* Establish action plans to meet the Company's environmental objectives and targets.
* Use industry tools to review and assess WMT's environment and sustainability performance and maturity.
* Develop and lead on the delivery of the annual environment and sustainability engagement plan, including training and events.
* Help to deliver the HSSE Team internal conference.
* Ensure environmental performance data is collated, reviewed and reported periodically as per reporting requirements.
* Attend environmental events both in the rail industry and outside of the industry to maintain knowledge of best practices.
* Engage with team members in West Midlands Trains and the Safety and Environment team to develop data and reporting solutions.
* Maintain information and knowledge management systems.
* Support the Safety and Environment team in the delivery of its Business Plan Commitments.
* Develop skills, experience and qualifications through Learning and Development and knowledge building with other West Midlands Trains departments as well as other Train Operating Companies and the Transport UK Group.
* Carry out all reasonable tasks as instructed by the Environment and Energy Manager.
Knowledge and experience you will bring:
* A Degree in Environmental Management, Sustainability or similar.
* Demonstrable experience working in an environmental role.
* Experience of leading, managing and delivering successful environmental projects and meeting deadlines, working with management and all levels of staff within the business.
* Familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies and best practices.
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-changing environment.
* Experience in change management with the ability to manage complex initiatives.
* A history of inspiring and engaging others to deliver environmental improvement.
* Member of IEMA or other equivalent environmental professional body (or working towards).
* Experience of ISO14001 and ISO50001 Environmental and Energy management systems.
* Excellent Microsoft Word and Excel skills and other analytical software with a rigorous approach and attention to detail in both quantitative and qualitative research and analysis.
* Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to take on challenges outside of your comfort zone using initiative.
* A good knowledge of environmental legislation.
