Mental Capacity Act / Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Planning Officer
The London Borough of Croydon Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) Team play a critical role in safeguarding the rights of the most vulnerable members of our community. We are looking for an exceptional and experienced Team Manager to run the day-to-day operations of the DoLS service. This specialist role requires in-depth knowledge, skills, and experience in the relevant fields in order to provide competent guidance and direction to the team and wider stakeholders.
You will be responsible for a team of Best Interest Assessors, DoLS Planning Officers, Independent DoLS Assessors, and Section 12 Mental Health Practitioners, ensuring that the service provided is effective through robust management of professional practice, performance, and resources. The role is responsible for overseeing high-quality and timely management of DoLS referrals in conjunction with frontline services and interventions to adults who may be deprived of their Liberty.
The Post sits within the Croydon Adult Safeguarding and Quality Assurance Unit led by the Head of Safeguarding and QA. The post-holder will report to the Service Manager for Adult Safeguarding and Service Lead for MCA & DoLS and work closely with the Service Manager in preparing for the implementation of LPS and contributing to the wider work relating to the council's systems, processes, relevant policies, and procedures.
About You:
We are looking for a candidate with:
1. A social work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, or Best Interest Assessor qualification with current registration.
2. At least 4 years of work experience as a BIA in all settings.
3. Substantial experience and knowledge of professional practice and topical issues.
4. Extensive knowledge of Adult Safeguarding and the Mental Capacity Act.
5. Experience of leading teams and building an adaptable workplace culture, and managing complex processes.
6. Experience of working at and representing the Council on a multi-agency partnership level.
7. An innovative and energetic candidate committed to implementing a person-centred and strengths-based approach to social work utilizing community assets.
We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate an ability to promote the rights, dignity, and self-determination of individuals who might be deprived of their liberty, ensuring that their care provision is the least restrictive option.
To be successful in your application, you will hold a Best Interests Assessor qualification. You will bring a high standard of report writing and IT skills, be able to work as part of a team as well as have the ability to work on your own initiative. Finally, we are looking for candidates who uphold and are committed to the principles of the Mental Capacity Act and knowledge of current legislation and guidance.
Additional Information:
The basic working hours for this role are 36 per week. Candidates should be aware that there is a requirement to attend meetings outside normal working hours wherever this is necessary for the effective performance of the job.
