We are excited to offer an opportunity to join our team as a Service Support Engineer at our location in Beccles.
What does this role include?
A Service Support Engineer at PCE Automation provides comprehensive support during the latter commissioning phases of our projects through to their installation, as well as providing ongoing support to our customers throughout the life of our equipment.
The role is varied and fast paced and would suit an individual who enjoys both a reactive and pro-active response to customer support.
What skills and experience are required?
Responsibilities:
* Support customers remotely to diagnose issues and rectify in a timely manner.
* Provide Technical support to the aftersales team.
* Responsible for supporting customers service contracts.
* Undertake work necessary for pre-service visit for the service engineers, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic or software tasks.
* Assist with the training and growth of the service engineers.
* Programme and modify control systems using PLC’s, Servo drives, Robots, and other specialised controllers specific to customer requirements.
* Troubleshoot & adjust mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and controls equipment.
* Fault finding and operational assessment of mechanisms both in isolation and in complex form.
* Modifying systems through electrical, mechanical, pneumatic or software means to enhance performance.
* Identify opportunities to improve a system with a view to presenting these to other team members.
* Perform tests, using structured processes, to build a defined understanding of a mechanism’s limitations.
* Record test results in a suitable manner such that they can be used to support the necessity/direction of further work.
* Ensure records of all modifications are documented correctly.
* Provide proactive feedback to the aftersales team to enable project progress to be determined.
* Assist with the commissioning, testing of new equipment and post installation maintenance inspections - both throughout the UK and overseas at customers premises.
* Operate equipment during “internal customer” trials and perform internal sign-off.
* Participate in customer sign-off/FAT.
* Provide exceptional levels of customer service.
Requirements:
* Relevant vocational training or completion of a recognised apprenticeship in electrical and/or mechanical discipline.
* Qualifications in Engineering and/or 5 years’ experience working in an electrical or mechanical environment.
* 4+ years of experience programming Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) using software such as Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, Festo, Codesys, Siemens.
* Knowledge of script-based programming would be an advantage.
* Knowledge of setting up Servos, VFD’s, Remote I/O, Ethernet and Profibus networks.
* Proven electrical, pneumatic, or mechanical experience within the automation industry/industrial environment.
* Ability to follow electrical and pneumatic schematic diagrams and drawings.
* Knowledge of 6 Axis Robot systems is preferred.
* Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
* The ability to work on your own initiative from an outline brief.
* Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and applicable regulations and guidelines.
* Willingness to travel worldwide to tend to our customers.
* Comprehensive knowledge of diagnostics, test, and repair of electronic/electrical and mechanical systems.
