Description

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) is a multilateral family of funds dedicated to addressing biodiversity loss, climate change, and pollution. The GEF Chemicals and Waste Focal Area (CWFA) team addresses global environmental challenges related to hazardous chemicals and waste. The GEF is seeking an expert and experienced environmental specialist to serve as a Chemicals and Waste Specialist in the CWFA team of the GEF Programming Division.
Duties and Accountabilities
The Chemicals and Waste Specialist will work in a multi-disciplinary technical team to support eligible countries in programming GEF resources to implement their commitments under international conventions and agreements. Responsibilities include:
1. Strategic Leadership and Portfolio Management
• Support the development and implementation of the GEF's Chemicals and Waste focal area strategy.
• Oversee the portfolio's overall performance and monitor progress towards achieving objectives.
2. Program and Project Development
• Lead the development and implementation of programs and projects within the Chemicals and Waste focal area.
• Provide technical guidance to GEF Implementing Agencies and countries.
3. Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination
• Collaborate with GEF Implementing Agencies to ensure effective program implementation.
• Engage with the secretariats of relevant international conventions.
4. Knowledge Management and Learning
• Promote knowledge sharing on chemicals and waste management.
• Contribute to the development of GEF policies and tools.
Selection Criteria
• Master's degree in environmental science, engineering, chemistry, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in chemicals and waste management.
• Demonstrated experience in program and project development.
• Experience in developing countries in the field of chemicals and waste management.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
