An exciting opportunity has arisen at Alder Hey. We are looking to recruit an Associate Director of IPC. You will be an innovative and enthusiastic individual who will be integral in delivering our strategic vision for IPC. The IPC programme will be built on a foundation of data integrity and evidence-based practices to prevent patient harm and create a safer environment for patients and staff.
We are seeking an ambitious, creative and forward-thinking professional, keen to build on our vision to achieve healthcare without avoidable infections. Positioned within a supportive and multi-professional integrated team, you will be expected to demonstrate strong leadership and change management skills and work with partners at a senior level.
Striving to improve the health of children and young people (CYP), you will be skilled, resilient and creative in your approach to problem solving. It is essential you are a team player, have excellent people and leadership skills and the ability to work with colleagues across the organisation. Applicants must have outstanding analytical and communication skills and the ability to prioritise a varied workload.
Main duties of the job
The Associate Director of Infection Prevention Control (ADIPC) has strategic leadership and management responsibility for the ongoing development and sustainability of a high-quality infection prevention and control service for the Trust.
The post holder will have significant Trust-wide responsibility with respect to developing, leading and directing the Trust’s programme to reduce healthcare-associated infections. This includes leadership and strategic direction to the following areas:
* Development and delivery of strategy and improvement programmes to achieve national infection reduction targets.
* Achieving excellent clinical infection prevention practices by all staff groups.
* Improving environmental cleanliness to meet and exceed minimum national standards.
* Antimicrobial stewardship.
* Emergency planning in relation to infectious agents.
* Infection outbreak and incident management.
* Environmental aspects of IPC such as water and ventilation safety.
* IPC leadership.
The post holder will work in complex partnerships with sites and areas across and outside the Trust to develop a strategic approach for the provision of services with infection prevention embedded at their core.

Person specification
Education and training
* Registered Health Care Professional (NMC, HCPC)
* First degree in relevant profession
* Specialist qualification in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
* Post Graduate Management or leadership development/qualification
* Teaching qualification
* Professional publications; Personal acknowledgment at national level (publication/representation)
* PRINCE or other Project/Programme management qualification
Experience
* In-depth professional knowledge of IPC acquired through training and experience over an extended period.
* Significant experience in a strategic infection prevention role with a track record of achievement.
* Extensive management/leadership in infection prevention.
* Extensive senior managerial experience with budgetary and management of staff and services.
* Extensive experience of effective partnership/multi-agency working in support of local and national strategy.
* Extensive experience of developing and implementing strategic, long-term planning in infection prevention, and operational plans resulting in improved outcomes.
* Developing and delivering governance systems including management and mitigation of risk.
* Experience of student supervision and clinical education at postgraduate and Masters Level.
* Experience of joint working with academic institutions.
Knowledge
* Expert and highly specialized knowledge of the current infection prevention health agenda, NHS policy and other key policy drivers.
* Extensive knowledge and experience of infection prevention development issues including education, leadership, research and governance.
* Knowledge of all aspects of research methodology and can demonstrate how research has influenced their practice.
Skills
* Able to think strategically and have the ability to analyse and solve complex problems.
* Ability to translate and integrate evidence-based research/guidelines into the development of local pathways of care.
* Able to analyse complex data, diagnose problems, identify solutions and undertake benefits analysis.
