Band 4 Multi-Skilled Mechanical Craftsperson

Perform unsupervised work including activities that may be demanding and/or non-routine. Work under own initiative to undertake maintenance, repairs, minor improvements, and capital work across the trust as directed, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures. To undertake training for new practices, procedures and equipment. To undertake on-call duties if required as part of the on-call team to ensure that emergencies occurring outside normal hours are attended to.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for testing, maintenance and fault finding on all engineering plant, equipment and services including but not limited to:
* Steam distribution and condensate recovery
* Steam to water low pressure heating and hot water
* Natural gas fired heating, hot water and catering plant
* Water storage, pumping and pressure boosting
* Ventilation and air conditioning
* Vacuum and compressed air plants
* Automated water treatment plant
* Firefighting installations
* Computerised building management controls
* Decontamination washers
* Laundry equipment
* Patient handling equipment such as beds, hoists, wheelchairs, etc.
* Hydrotherapy pool

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Basic education to GCSE/'O' Level in Maths and English or post-Secondary Education training in a relevant field (E)
* City & Guilds of London Institute Certificate in:
* Either:
* Course 205 in Mechanical Engineering Maintenance Part 2 (205-3) (E)
* Or:
* Course 596 in Plumbing Advanced Craft Certificate (596-2) in Both - Sanitary Plumbing Plus, Installation and Maintenance of Domestic Heating Systems and Appliances (E)
* Or:
* Course 596 Plumbing Craft Certificate (596-1) Plus course 599 Construction Service Welding Advanced Craft (599-2) (E)
* Or:
* An equivalent qualification such as NVQ Level 3 in a relevant Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering discipline (E)
* Or:
* BTEC/ONC in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (E)
Experience
* Completion of a registered apprenticeship or structured training program in Mechanical Engineering for a minimum of 3 years (E)
* Plus:
* At least 2 years post training, site experience having demonstrated high versatility and flexibility (E)
* Background in Mechanical Engineering, equipment or Building services installation, alteration, maintenance or fault finding (E)
* Reasonably clear and effective in verbal and written communications (E)
* Capable of working to deadlines (E)

* Ability to work without supervision and confident to take decisions based on own ability (E)
* Available for potential future shift working (E)
* Physically demanding role requiring manual handling of loads, extremes of temperature and the ability to work at heights or in confined spaces (E)
