The roles and responsibilities of the Health Safety and Environmental Manager:
1. Define and implement HSE policies aligned with current standards and regulations.
2. Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety standards.
3. Organise training sessions to raise awareness among staff regarding risks and best safety practices.
4. Ensure compliance training is regularly assessed and updated.
5. Investigate HSE incidents and claims, analyse causes, and implement corrective actions.
6. Maintain an Integrated Management System audit programme for Health & Safety and Environmental standards.
7. Maintain updated documents and reports concerning incidents and inspections.
8. Ensure the availability and proper functioning of safety equipment.
9. Ensure that all activities comply with current regulations.
10. Periodically assess HSE performance and propose improvement actions.
11. Identify and assess risks on site and develop plans to mitigate and eliminate those risks, including risk assessments.
12. Help us build a risk-aware, safety-focused culture that serves our employees and our community with excellence.
13. Create an annual HSE plan and train employees and managers on updated procedures.
14. Lead HSE committee meetings on site, providing relevant data, and supporting any actions arising from the meeting.
15. Drive our environmental and sustainability efforts forward to meet our targets.
16. Create and maintain key HSE KPIs monthly.
17. Ensure all new employees receive a robust HSE induction on commencement of employment.
18. High level of visibility on the shopfloor is essential.
19. Aim for a 100% safety record on site.
20. Ensure compliance with ISO 9001& 14001, working towards 45001.
21. Assist Managers in developing and implementing new projects.
Qualifications and Education Requirements of the Health Safety and Environmental Manager:
1. Internal Auditor for ISO14001.
2. IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management.
3. NEBOSH General certificate in occupational Health and Safety.
4. IOSH Managing Safely.
5. Proven experience within a similar environment of managing safety.
6. Ability to work to deadlines.
7. Attention to detail in maintaining HSE records.
8. Excellent communication skills, able to deal with Managers and employees at all levels.
9. In-depth knowledge of HSE regulations specific to Manufacturing particularly Polymers.
10. Able to work as part of a team.
11. Strong communication skills.
12. Excellent organisational skills.
