The Ancillary team at Pinderfields Hospital provides portering and linen services at our acute hospital site in Wakefield. To support and maintain the high standards that the service delivers we are looking for an enthusiastic and dependable Non Patient Movement Porter to join the Trust and become part of our busy team.
This is a full time position as follows -
37.5 hours per week, working 5 days over 7 with various shifts within a 24 hour period.

Main duties of the job
Working as part of the operational portering team delivering essential items between wards and departments. The post holder will ensure that documents and items are delivered to and collected from wards and departments in a timely and efficient manner.
The successful applicant will undertake a number of other basic portering tasks and undertake other basic portering duties.
The post holder will be responsive to the requirements of the service, sensitive to patients' needs and courteous and caring to all service users. The duties allocated to the Non Patient Movement Porter may be routine planned tasks or require an immediate response to meet the demands of the Trust.

Job responsibilities
* Undertake the collection of refuse, cardboard, clinical waste etc. within the Trust's outer buildings and segregation of the same for disposal and transfer to respective areas.
* Responsible for reporting incidents requiring pest control and supporting and assisting the cleaning and maintenance tasks involved with pest control.
* Undertakes the delivery/collection of blood, products, specimens, and pharmacy deliveries and patients' notes as scheduled and directed. Support Major Haemorrhage incidents.
* Assist the medical records porter in the delivery, collection, and sorting of packages throughout the hospital.
* Respond to calls from the Radio Systems within the Link Desk to ensure tasks requirements are met.
* Understand, apply or provide support in emergency procedures including major alerts and fire procedures.
* Required to undertake requests as required including the movement and storage of furniture, office equipment, within Trust outer areas and ward equipment including beds, heavy items as required within the hospital.
* Provide a messenger service between wards and departments.
* Ensure common areas are kept clean and tidy.
* Responsible for the distribution of non-stock items/goods to wards/departments, ensuring that a signature is obtained on delivery on an ad-hoc basis.
* Participate in the provision of an out of hours gritting in entrances, when necessary, within Trust outer buildings.
* Understand the operation of the department to assist in its smooth running and enable them to prioritise workload.
