This post is a maternity locum available for one year from December 2024. It forms an excellent opportunity for consultant experience alongside a welcoming and supportive team. Ideally we are looking for a candidate with at least a years experience in Diabetes and Endocrinology (SPIN preferred) to cover this role. We would consider candidates with broad general paediatric experience with appropriate amendments to job plan. The CYP Diabetes team are award an award-winning team caring for over 250 CYP with diabetes achieving some of the best outcomes in the sector. the postholder would be well supported by the team including our Diabetes lead consultant. The paediatric department benefits from strong consultant presence including an onsite paediatrician 24/7.

DCC is composed of attending weeks on the general paediatric ward at 1:14 weeks a year, non-resident on call for general paediatrics at 1:7 weekday nights and 1:14 weekends as well as cover for our PED/PAU referrals on 20 days/evenings a year (to be split 0800-1300 and 1300-2200) and 1:14 weekends (1300-2200). Additionally, you will deliver an endocrine clinic 2-3 times a month, general/hot clinic weekly and support the weekly diabetes clinic alongside the diabetes team, providing support to our diabetes specialist nurses and the ward team for diabetes admissions. The postholder will contribute to our advice and guidance for local GPs. There is also an expectation to join the diabetes on call rota (for phone advice only shared 1:5 with the team. This will attract a 3% on call supplement) once the postholder has settled into role.
It is expected that the post holder will fully contribute to the Department, attending MDT meetings as well as departmental and governance meetings and add guidelines, audits and QI projects as well as management/investigation of incidents (in line with the new PSIRF framework) and complaints.
