Our client, a world-class Manufacturing business based in Plymouth, is looking for an experienced and qualified Production Engineer to join a well-established team. You will be responsible for the performance of specific process operations for all programs of work that require that process and ensuring that a consistent approach is taken across products, utilizing best practices while providing and acting upon feedback.
Main Duties:
1. Support the NPI (New Product Introduction) process to ensure a smooth transition into production (SAP New Parts & Major NPI Projects) including but not limited to:
1. Routing Creation & Maintenance
2. SAP Master Data Creation & Maintenance e.g. Tooling BOM's
3. Machine Tool Program Creation & Optimisation
4. Machine Process related Parameters creation & optimization e.g. Hardening processes
5. Fixture Design, Procurement & Validation
6. Process Documentation: SOP's, Specification sheets, Tooling Cards etc.
2. Specify, install and commission capital equipment in line with the business requirements.
3. Raise CEA Documentation including project scope, cost, justification & payback period.
4. Support production department as required.
5. Problem solving - arriving at conclusions using appropriate tools and techniques (Six Sigma, Core Tools, Lean, SPC tools).
6. Support production to achieve targets in accordance with the production plan.
7. Report on all improvement issues within the scope of the role.
8. Continuously improve the performance of the process, equipment, and production procedures in the most economic manner consistent with business objectives.
9. Identify technical throughput and capacity limiting issues, working with the team to implement solutions.
10. Ensure all shop floor documentation is correct and that Team Leaders / Cell Leaders are aware of the correct operating procedures for their respective areas. Documentation ownership includes but is not limited to:
1. SOP's (Electronic and PDF/Word Format SOP's)
2. pFMEA's
3. Process Flows
4. Control Plans
5. Specification Sheets
6. Tool Cards
11. Work as part of a cross-functional team to respond to customer complaints, participating in 8D investigations, implementing/completing the following activities:
1. Containment Actions
2. Root Cause Analysis
3. Corrective Actions
12. Responsible for rework (out of normal) procedures, including documentation and qualification of the process.
13. Manage and document process changes through the following procedures:
1. Engineering Change Notes
2. Engineering Trials
3. Manufacturing Change Notes
4. Concession / Permit
14. Using data to measure process performance and implement appropriate improvement activities including but not limited to:
1. Cost Reduction (e.g. Tooling Spend)
2. Up-time Improvements
3. Capacity Improvements
4. Cycle/Process/Routing Time Reduction
5. Defect Reduction
15. Identify equipment risks and recommend/implement critical spare strategies to mitigate risk and minimize downtime.
16. Obtain quotations and raise purchase requisitions via SAP as required.
17. Define measurement techniques to demonstrate process capability.
18. Ensure the process is in control by using SPC to monitor key Product & Process characteristics, identifying violations, and assisting in remedial actions.
19. Responsible for own personal development in line with business needs.
20. Motivating - inspiring, encouraging, and impelling staff to take the actions required to ensure that the business meets its objectives.

1. Proven experience in a machining environment
2. CNC Lathe Programming: Fanuc
3. CNC Machining Centre Programming: Fanuc
4. Proven experience of Lean Manufacturing Principles
5. Proven experience in Continuous Improvement
6. Proven experience in Problem Solving
7. Proven experience in Design
8. Self-Motivated - ability to manage workload and deliver multiple projects
9. Time-served Apprenticeship or Further Education equivalent HNC/HND
10. Six Sigma Certification (Desirable)
