Job overview
NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Integrated Care Board (ICB) is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Senior Pharmacist to work within the Medicines Management Team.
They will support the Lead Pharmacist for Medicines Value and Transformation in driving forward the ICB's Medicines Optimisation Strategy and Medicines Value agenda providing high quality, evidence-based prescribing advice and medicines optimisation support. They will take the lead in developing, implementing and monitoring projects to optimise medicines use, improve patient outcomes and enhance productivity and value for money for the system and wider NHS, enabling long-term financial sustainability.
As an applicant, you must be a registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the Lead Pharmacist for Medicines Value and Transformation to ensure that work streams and programmes are developed and carried out effectively; this will include assisting with planning and supporting/delivering key clinical projects across the integrated care system, with a particular focus on providing support for the delivery of the ICB's medicines value priorities through evidence-based cost-effective prescribing and medicines management.
They will work closely with all members of the Medicines Optimisation Team, supporting and line managing team members as appropriate.
The post holder will develop strong working relationships across other areas within the ICB as well as the senior management team, working closely with colleagues to ensure medicines management is properly embedded in service transformation and commissioning plans.
The post holder will be required to have regular contact with GP Practices and PCNs and wider providers across the Integrated Care System (ICS), patient groups, commissioning support services, national commissioning board, local authority, public health and strategic groups/committees, care providers and the voluntary sector.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will be appointed to NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin ICB. Your base will be the ICB Headquarters in Wellington, Shropshire. NHS STW operates a hybrid working arrangement where you will be required to work from the office base for part of your working week, based on your contracted number of hours. Travel may also be necessary across other sites and clinical settings as appropriate; therefore you must have the ability to meet the travel needs of the post.
Our ICB Pharmacists will work with multiple providers across the system and will be responsible for providing medicines optimisation support to the practices we serve, developing and implementing medicines optimisation projects for implementation within each practice, delivering savings and improving the quality of medicines use.
The post holder will be asked to support delivery of the national medicines optimisation opportunities and medicines value priorities for the system.
The role will entail supervising and line managing other team members as appropriate, notably Lead Pharmacy Technicians/project leads. There will also be a requirement to provide education and training to other health professionals, system partners and care settings as required.

1. To support system wide integration and collaboration, working with system pharmacy colleagues and wider health and care professionals to ensure that medicines practice in health and care delivery settings are joined up.
1. To improve the health of the population by optimising the use of medicines through:
* promoting the safe, evidence-based and cost-effective use of medicines;
* supporting implementation of the shared system formulary;
* providing up to date, unbiased information about medicines, treatments and care pathways;
* supporting practitioners and patients to make the best use of medicines;
* to support the implementation of national guidance on the use of medicines (NICE appraisals and quality prescribing targets).
* minimising the harm caused by medicines;
* developing local guidelines and care pathways to optimise the use of medicines;
* supporting other health and care providers to deliver medicines optimisation in a way that is high quality, efficient, safe, well led, timely and responsive, effective and equitable.
1. To support the development, implementation, delivery and reporting of the annual Medicines Optimisation cost improvement programme (CIP), working collaboratively across the ICB to influence and monitor prescribing costs, promote cost effective prescribing and minimise wastage of medicines.

Experience
* Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, appreciate the implications of this on engagement.
* Should have an appreciation of the relationship between the Department of Health, the NHS Commissioning Board and individual provider and commissioning organisations.
Qualifications
* Educated to masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area.
* Extensive knowledge of specialist areas, acquired through post graduate diploma or equivalent experience or training plus further specialist knowledge or experience to master’s level equivalent.
* Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development.
Skills & Knowledge
* Provide and receive highly complex, sensitive and contentious information, negotiate with senior stakeholders on difficult and controversial issues, and present complex and sensitive information to large and influential groups.
* Able to work effectively with people at a senior level within the ICB both managerial and clinical and in external agencies.
