Due to our continued growth as we deliver the Pathway to 2030 programme of works and beyond, SSEN Transmission have an opportunity for a Senior HVDC Plant Engineer to join the team and play a critical role in helping us grow our team and deliver our NetZero ambitions.
The Senior HVDC Plant Engineer will have experience working on the Transmission Network and an extensive knowledge of HVDC covering System Design, Main Plant Apparatus, and Insulation Co-ordination design.
The key responsibilities of this role include:
1. Review or approve the technical requirements of HVDC system design and primary plant and equipment and liaise with control and protection team to ensure that secondary design is well coordinated.
2. Provide HVDC and AC Substation technical support on high profile projects or technically complex issues.
3. Take technical ownership of engagement with Technical Authority to manage specification deviations and to capture lessons learned and future specification improvements.
4. Work within a multi-discipline team, utilising Autodesk Construction Cloud BIM environment to manage and co-ordinate designs, raise and respond to contractor RFI/TQs, clash detection, 3D model development etc.
5. Attendance and chairing if required HAZID, HAZOP and HAZCON supporting the design process, co-ordinating design review meetings and identifying improvements.
What do I need?
The role would suit an experienced Primary Plant Engineer from either an OEM contractor or consultancy, looking to take the next step into a client-side organisation.
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
1. Ideally a degree or MSc in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, be a Chartered Engineer or working towards this or relevant experience.
2. Have excellent communication skills, with the ability to demonstrate diligence and to prioritise workload.
3. Demonstrable experience to technically assess and critically challenge contractor submissions.
4. Familiarity with a range of technical solutions used in HVDC / AC Substations.
