Senior Designer Position

The Senior Designer provides support and technical guidance for a team of multi-disciplined designers. The role will assure the quality of output to the required standards consistent with the whole lifecycle from concept to in-service support.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Designs and develops solutions, resolves design issues and problems for a range of specialist design situations.
2. Provides specialist technical advice and guidance to other designers, ensuring design governance for technical standards for the team.
3. Works with a high degree of technical autonomy and typically incorporates Engineer status.
4. Must adhere to Health & Safety standards and be familiar with all authorized documentation, Good Practice Guides, and ISO standards.
5. Design mechanical handling equipment and movement systems for small items (40 kg).
6. Allocate discipline tasks to the allocated team of Designers, check team drawing outputs, and ensure inter-discipline coordination in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
7. Promote effective cooperation across Design and other functional teams.
8. Assist in the effective management of the customer, developing relationships to aid business development and resolve technical and delivery issues.
9. Advise and assist in selecting the correct methods and tools for tasks, providing technical assistance to the allocated team of Designers.
10. Contribute to the preparation/production of drawings in support of basic, detail, and production design in line with recognized ISO standards.
11. Provide a point of contact with professional engineering colleagues and various stakeholders for discipline-related issues during the design lifecycle.
12. Assist in the resolution of Production & Technical Queries & the development of discipline solutions for the team.
13. Contribute to learning from experience (LfE) during and post-project.
14. Develop innovative design solutions and fulfill Design Lead responsibilities as assigned for multi-discipline low-risk projects.
15. Maintain individual knowledge of current best practices in the application of designer expertise across the design lifecycle.
16. Support the business winning process through input into or review of tender requirements, including estimates.
17. Support business development opportunities by raising the Company profile via presentations, academic links, conferences & technical papers.
Minimum Requirements:
1. HNC minimum in a relevant discipline OR equivalent academic qualification.
2. Experience in a detailed design environment.
3. Good knowledge of CAD tools.
4. Knowledge of General Engineering Drawing Practice.
5. Incorporated Engineer status.
6. Demonstrable experience in technical leading of a multi-disciplined design team.
7. Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with other disciplines.
8. Member of a relevant Professional Institute.
9. Breadth and depth of experience in a range of commercial or defence projects.
10. Experience with Inventor.
The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance level for this role. Travel may be required to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.
