Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist within the Haematology Laboratory based in East Anglia with our NHS client. Our client is looking for candidates who are currently working as a band 6 and are looking to further their career and join a new NHS trust. We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, forward-thinking individual, to help deliver a high-quality, first-class service to our users. This busy department receives over 1000 FBC per day so experience in a large busy laboratory will be an advantage. Our client provides a twenty-four-hour diagnostic and monitoring service. The laboratory is ISO 15189 and HCPC/IBMS accredited. The ideal candidate must be a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with a relevant Biomedical Science Master's degree, HSD or recognised equivalent. Candidates must have a sound theoretical and practical knowledge in all areas of haematology including coagulation and morphology. Currently, the laboratory operates a 24/7 shift system. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the out-of-hours rota once competencies are in place.
Main Duties of the Job
You will be responsible for performing technical tasks to meet the needs of the laboratory service. This includes analysis, technical validation, interpretive decisions, and reporting of samples to achieve the objectives of efficient and effective patient care and resource management. You will be expected to work collaboratively within the laboratory team in haematology, coagulation, and blood transfusion. A commitment to providing a high standard of service to our patients and participation in the laboratory's quality programme is essential. You should have an understanding of legislation, regulation, and the maintenance of compliance with ISO 15189:2012. The laboratory operates a 24/7 shift system, and after appropriate training, you will be expected to participate in the departmental shift system, which attracts AfC enhanced payments.
Applications will be considered from individuals who require the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Haematology & Hospital Transfusion Science. In these circumstances, successful applicant salaries will be as per AFC Annex 21 - 70% of the top of band 6 until awarded the diploma, which is expected to be completed in less than two years. BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent academic achievement ratified by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).
State registration with Healthcare Professions Council (HCPC).
Post-registration specialist competency portfolio or equivalent.
Evidence of continuing professional development and proficiency in accordance with HCPC guidelines.
Experience

Experience of working in clinical laboratories commensurate with the laboratory position.
Experience of laboratory techniques and automation.
