Job Title: Machine Shop Manager
Job Summary
As the Machine Shop Manager, you will play a critical role in driving the efficiency and continuous improvement of our manufacturing processes. You will oversee the development and implementation of new manufacturing procedures, processes, and equipment, ensuring all meet the company’s design specifications and objectives. The role requires promoting a LEAN culture, fostering lean initiatives, and overseeing a team of Operatives and Engineers, ensuring they possess the necessary skills to meet production demands and customer orders.
Key Responsibilities
1. Plan, coordinate, and lead multi-disciplined teams to fulfill company objectives associated with the Machine Shop.
2. Manage daily production schedules and provide clear instructions to the shop floor team.
3. Develop efficient production routes and manage stock and cost of tooling.
4. Oversee quoting, cost estimation, route design, and tool job production.
5. Ensure volume outputs, quality, safety, and delivery commitments are consistently met.
6. Run trials for new products and recommend improvements.
7. Maintain machinery and equipment in optimal working condition.
8. Recommend new equipment when required to enhance production efficiency.
9. Develop and mentor the Machine Shop team, conducting performance reviews and setting bonus schedules.
10. Regularly communicate team performance and foster effective communication within the team.
11. Proficiently use all machinery/equipment and train others in their use.
12. Collaborate with other departments to ensure client deadlines are met.
13. Champion continuous improvement and LEAN initiatives within the department.
14. Lead prototype builds, budget planning, and new program launches.
Required Skills and Abilities
1. Strong knowledge of control production, cycle and tact times, and lean manufacturing techniques.
2. Proven ability to manage and lead a team effectively.
3. Ability to implement and maintain LEAN initiatives across the shop floor.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
5. Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
6. Skilled in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and running trials for new products.
7. Familiarity with safety protocols and a commitment to upholding a safe work environment.
8. Ability to plan and develop production routes for maximum efficiency.
9. High attention to detail and quality control.
Physical Demands
This is a 35-hour workweek position. Overtime may be required based on business needs, but it is unpaid. Normal working hours are Monday to Thursday, 08:00 to 16:00 (with a 30-minute unpaid break) and Friday, 08:00 to 13:00 (with no break).
