Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen at Wye Valley NHS Trust (WVT) for a Biomedical Scientist to join our Blood Sciences Department. We are looking for an enthusiastic Biomedical Scientist to work on rotation through our Haematology and Blood Transfusion sections, with the opportunity to cross train in Clinical Chemistry and Immunology, to help us continue to deliver exceptional, high-quality integrated care to our patients. The successful candidate will have: HCPC State Registration as a Biomedical Scientist A good understanding of a Blood Sciences Department Troubleshooting and problem solving skills Excellent communication skills Willingness to learn and develop new skills Training Opportunities The Blood Sciences Department is committed to providing training opportunities to help staff to develop the skills and knowledge they require to excel in their career as a Biomedical Scientist. Opportunities include: IBMS Specialist Portfolio in a range of disciplines NHS Blood And Transplant Scientific Courses Anticoagulation Management BBTS Specialist Certification in Transfusion Science Practice IBMS Certificates of Expert Practice Barbara Bain Morphology update for Biomedical Scientists Range of NEQAS meetings and courses In house quality training including auditing and incident management IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma Variety of webinars in all areas of Biomedical Science MSc Modules Main duties of the job The post holder will be responsible for performing a range of scientific procedures on biological samples that contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases and to develop and maintain competency in all sections of the Blood Sciences Laboratory as required: Anticoagulation, Blood Transfusion, Clinical Chemistry, Haematology and Immunology. A 24/7 service is provided for Blood Transfusion, Haematology and Clinical Chemistry. Therefore the post holder will be expected to fully participate in the extended core hours and shift system once competent.
