Consultant Cardiologist with an Interest in Complex Devices

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new Consultant Cardiologist to join an existing team of nine Consultant Cardiologists working in this successful Teaching Hospital. This is a post for a consultant cardiologist with an interest in complex devices; this will include sessions at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals to carry out implantation and follow up of complex devices. This may include sessions in the catheter lab at Rother NHS Foundation NHS Trust which is staffed by consultants from Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster.
Currently this post involves weekend working but no on call. However, the GIRFT programme is encouraging on call to be provided in all hospitals.
Main Duties of the Job
You will be expected to contribute to the delivery of a seven day a week service; however, this can be delivered flexibly to maintain work-life balance or support a specialist interest at a tertiary centre.

Job Responsibilities
* To maintain the highest clinical standards in Cardiology.
* To provide outpatient services in general Cardiology and subspecialty services as agreed after appointment.
* To share with colleagues the provision of Cardiology advice to medical and surgical inpatients.
* To work with colleagues, both medical and nursing, to improve and advance the service.
* To share with colleagues the responsibility for the management of the Department.
* To share with colleagues the responsibility for teaching and training of trainees, resident medical colleagues, nursing colleagues, primary care, and medical students.
* To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MRCP or equivalent.
* You must be on the specialist register for Cardiology or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of Doctors must be eligible to be on the GMC specialist register (evidence required prior to commencement) to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee.
* Applicants must continue to hold a Licence to Practise.
Experience
* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Cardiology.
* Must have significant skills and experience within the sub-specialty of complex cardiac devices.
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on a range of problems within the specialty.
* Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions.
* Wide based experience in Cardiology.
* Attendance at a recognised management course.
Teaching and Training
* Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.
* Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications.
* Training in clinical and educational supervision.
* Attendance at a teaching course.
* Formal qualification in teaching/education.
Audit and Research
* Knowledge of Audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects and the implementation of outcomes.
* Critical Appraisal Skills.
* Evidence of knowledge of research methodology.
Personal Qualities
* Ability to use IT Systems - including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
* Evidence of innovation.
* Evidence of continual learning and development.
* Understands self (strengths and weaknesses) and impact of behaviour on others.
General
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* Ability to work in various locations throughout the network of services provided by Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching NHS Foundation Trust.
