Lead Pharmacist - Oncology and Haematology

We are looking for an enthusiastic, forward-thinking Pharmacist to join our experienced and friendly team dedicated to providing an advanced clinical Oncology/Haematology pharmacy service and supply of aseptic products to the Trust.
As the Lead Pharmacist for Oncology and Haematology, you will support the Macmillan Pharmacist and Head of Pharmacy to help transform the Aseptic team and meet the overall strategic objectives of the team in providing pharmaceutical care for cancer and medical patients.
This role will suit candidates who have significant experience working as an oncology pharmacist and wish to develop further as a specialist in this area. We are open to exploring progression posts as part of this role.
Main duties of the job
* Provide an advanced level clinical pharmacy service to the Oncology and Haematology departments under the direction of the Macmillan Pharmacist.
* Support the Aseptics Team by monitoring and checking chemotherapy.
* Help transform the Aseptics Team, develop leadership and management skills while actively contributing to the Oncology Pharmacy team.
Job responsibilities
* To provide an advanced level clinical pharmacy service under the direction of the Macmillan Pharmacist.
* To monitor prescriptions for haematology and oncology medicines, ensuring they are prescribed safely and appropriately.
* To liaise with medical and nursing staff on the Oncology Unit, Haematology Department, and the Day Treatment Unit (DTU).
* To monitor and check chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition products to appropriate standards.
* To provide advice concerning the pharmaceutical care of cancer and general medical patients.
* To assist in the ongoing training of pharmacists to clinically verify chemotherapy prescriptions.
* To promote multidisciplinary working with medical and nursing colleagues.
* To participate in Aseptics/Haematology/Oncology training, audit, and drug usage review.
* To prepare and submit applications for new haematology/oncology Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) or individual funding requests.
* To assist in the provision of monthly chemotherapy statistics to cancer services.
* To manage the chemotherapy e-prescribing (EPMA) system, Chemocare.
* To assist in the ongoing running of the chemotherapy e-prescribing system.
* To undertake line management of the rotational Oncology Pharmacist.
* To provide expert advice on clinical trials medicines.
* To contribute to the Pharmacy clinical risk programme.
* To promote high quality, cost-effective prescribing.
* To participate in clinical audit, practice research, and other project work.
* To complete further Oncology training as necessary.
* To provide highly specialised pharmaceutical information to the multi-disciplinary team.
* To supervise, check, and carry out dispensing and issue of medicines.
* To assist with the training of supporting staff and students.
* To participate in and encourage an open communication climate.
* To undertake other reasonable duties as directed.
* To participate in weekend working, late duties, and emergency duties as necessary.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Pharmacist (General Pharmaceutical Council)
* Bachelor/Master of Pharmacy or equivalent
* PG Clinical Pharmacy Certificate
* PG Clinical Pharmacy Diploma
* Registered with the GPhC as an Independent Prescriber.
* GCP Certificate
Experience
* Relevant oncology/haematology clinical pharmacy experience
* Experience of NHS commissioning arrangements
* DUR and audit experience
* Experience of working in Hospital Aseptic Services
* Experience of working with clinical trials
* Inter/intra-departmental teamwork
Knowledge
* Up-to-date knowledge of pharmacology and therapeutics in oncology/haematology
* Good communication skills (written and verbal)
* Good interpersonal skills
* Good time management and prioritisation skills
* Able to work without supervision but knowing when to ask for help
* Team player
