Our clients have an exciting opportunity for an R&D Design Engineer to join their growing engineering team near Havant.
The R&D Engineer will carry out market research and develop new engineering solutions for their clients, focusing on industrial mechanical and automation equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Define product specifications for new engineering research projects.
2. Use engineering principles, calculations, and industry-specific design software (CAD, FEA) for design and analysis tasks.
3. Utilise in-house tools such as CNC machines, laser cutting, and brake press equipment to design, develop, and build prototypes that use moving mechanical parts, AC/DC motors, and electromagnetic equipment.
4. Collaborate with various departments (manufacturing, quality assurance, marketing) to ensure product viability and alignment with company goals.
5. Experience of working within mature PLM/NPI processes.
6. Maintain thorough records of research, design, testing, and development activities.
7. Investigate failures, participate in design reviews, modify drawings, and prepare work packages for others as necessary.
8. Consult with manufacturing and fabrication teams to design and develop tooling and processes.
9. Witness and evaluate results from product testing and analyse impact on design.
10. Ensure the validity of product performance criteria through evaluation of marketing requirements, customer feedback, field research, competitive product performance, latest product standards, and application of experience.
11. Carry out additional responsibilities as considered necessary by Management.
Ideal Skills & Experience:
1. Knowledge of a recognised NPI process
2. Experience working within a mechanical/machinery or automation environment
3. 3D Modelling
4. Design for manufacture experience
