The Abdominal Medicine and Surgery (AMS) CSU are seeking to recruit an innovative, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual who is passionate about delivering high-quality compassionate care, as well as leading change and supporting staff into the role of Lead Nurse for Liver Transplant & Hepatology services at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Main duties of the job
This post has line management responsibility for Nurses Specialists, Team Leaders and Allied Health Care professionals related to Hepatology, Liver Transplant Services. The individual has responsibility for the care and delivery of services within the patch and is expected to provide highly specialist clinical care if required.
The Team Leader/Senior Nurses will also be required to provide Leadership and highly specialist advice and support to the Liver Transplant Co-ordinators, Clinical Nurse Specialists, wellbeing teams and advanced practitioners. There is an on-call requirement for this role.
The post holder is expected to work in partnership with colleagues across the health community including NHS Blood and Transplant, and other Transplant centres to inform the strategic direction for Transplant Services within Leeds.
The post holder is also expected to ensure the Trust operates within the National frameworks for Organ Retrieval, Liver and Renal Transplantation and is compliant with legislation for the removal, transplantation, storage and disposal of organs and tissue.

Job responsibilities
Liver transplant is a highly specialised commissioned service and Leeds is one of only six centres in England who undertake adult liver transplants as well as being one of three paediatric liver transplant centres. Leeds is a supraregional centre offering specialist Liver care to patients from across the Yorkshire and North West regions.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
CLINICAL
Lead in the on-going development and monitoring of the Ward Health check and Perfect Ward dashboards.
Lead in supporting clinical audit and benchmarking, using the Essence of Care toolkit, ensuring examples of good practice is shared.
Work in supporting Matrons and Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses to address issues in clinical areas.
To act as expert Communicator disseminating and receiving feedback on various projects from a wide range of staff (Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals).
Actively seek and identify opportunities for new ways of working to improve safety, efficiency, and high standards of care.
Aim to ensure nursing services are benchmarked against high performing organisations nationally and internationally.
Ensure clinical practice follows a sound evidence base.
Work with the Head of Nursing Professional Practice & Safety Standards to ensure the implementation & delivery of the Nursing Strategy via agreed action plans.
Act in accordance with the Nursing & Midwifery/Health Care Professions Code.
Fulfils the requirements as directed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council or Health Care Professional Council to maintain and revalidate registration.
LEADERSHIP
Support the Deputy Chief Nurse, Nurse Directors and Head of Professional Practice, Standards and Safety in the delivery of an enhanced, robust system for monitoring and reporting key standards in relation to ward and unit performance.
Work with Clinical Service Units and the Nursing Directorate in the delivery and monitoring of key performance indicators based on quality standards.
Lead and promote change in nursing and clinical practice in order to improve staff and patient experience via projects delegated by the Deputy Chief Nurses.
Provide a positive role model to nursing staff and ensure involvement and participation of staff groups such as Nursing & Midwifery Operational group.
Work with the Nursing Directorate team to promote, develop and deliver a nursing & midwifery leadership strategy across the Trust.
Lead on resolving issues with standards of care by working with ward leaders and staff.
Develop effective strategies to support ward leaders and staff in improving practice to meet the required standards of care.
EDUCATION
In conjunction with the Deputy Chief Nurse and Head of Nursing for Workforce and Education, support and develop the education agenda in nursing and midwifery to promote and assure the delivery of high standards of care across the Trust.
Lead the team of Project Nurses to deliver support and supervision to clinical areas in the pursuit of the highest standards of care.
