Are you ready to make a significant impact on a dynamic and growing company? We are seeking a talented Chemist to join the R&D team at our Sheffield site. You will take part in the development and maintenance of the wood formulations within the labs.
The R&D chemist role within the woodcare team will be responsible to:
R&D Development work
1. Development of new products/formulations
2. Reformulation of existing products
3. Laboratory testing of formulations and products
4. Management of projects through the stage-gate process from feasibility to scale-up
Product and material maintenance
5. Provision of support to the QA and Consumer Services Departments
6. Advise plant on production batch corrections & complaint investigation
7. Management of formulations/recipes within the company IT systems
8. Understanding relevant regulations and ensuring compliance
Laboratory evaluation of products and materials
9. Assist in the departmental stability studies
10. Benchmarking testing of woodcare products
11. Evaluation and assessment of raw materials including supplier meetings
General laboratory responsibilities
12. Equipment maintenance & calibration
13. Working to, and upholding ISO and safety standards
14. Ordering of consumables
15. Report writing & presentation of results
Other duties appropriate to the position under the direction of the R&D woodcare team leader
16. Bachelor’s Degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, polymer/materials science or related technical discipline
17. 3 year’s experience of working in a chemical laboratory
18. Master’s Degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, polymer/materials science or related technical discipline
19. Industrial chemistry experience
20. Experience of decorative coatings products and/or woodcare products
21. Six Sigma knowledge
22. Previous laboratory experience essential
23. Competent IT skills
24. Effective written & verbal communication skills
25. Confidence in presenting in formal or informal environments - essential
26. Ability to work flexibly and respond positively to changing priorities
27. Ability to work in a team environment and on own initiative
Preferred:
28. Ability to work successfully in a matrixed organization
29. Coatings/paints formulation experience
30. Driving license is preferred due to occasional travel
