We're a remote-first business, however we've retained a HQ in central Brighton which is available for collaborative working and in-person meet-ups.
About the Role
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead two high-performing squads, guiding and mentoring engineers to deliver cutting-edge solutions that enhance our SEO and Growth initiatives. Your squads will play a pivotal role in driving organic traffic and improving the overall customer experience for both pet owners and sitters.
You will collaborate closely with product managers, marketing, SEO experts, and designers to build and maintain a technically sound, scalable, and high-performance website architecture that supports our aggressive growth and SEO goals. This role is perfect for a hands-on engineering leader who is passionate about driving results in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Requirements
* 3+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles, managing and scaling technical teams.
* Practice servant leadership.
* Proven track record of delivering complex web-based projects in a digital-first, customer-focused environment.
* Strong experience working in growth-focused or SEO-centric projects, particularly in fast-paced, high-growth businesses.
* Solid understanding of website architecture, performance optimisation, and technical SEO best practices.
* Excellent leadership skills with the ability to inspire, coach, and develop engineering teams.
* Strong project management abilities, with experience in agile methodologies and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
* Deep knowledge of web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks.
* You will champion agile principles, coaching the squad on their approach to delivery, using DORA (or other) metrics to constantly improve.
* Familiarity with CMS systems (e.g., Prismic) and ability to collaborate with product teams on CMS optimisation.
Responsibilities
* Leadership & Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop two engineering squads responsible for delivering on SEO, growth, and content initiatives. Foster a high-performance culture by creating an environment of accountability, continuous improvement, and open communication. Provide career development guidance and ensure engineers receive the tools and support they need to thrive.
* Engineering Excellence: Oversee the technical architecture and delivery of projects, ensuring best practices in software engineering, particularly regarding search engine optimisation (SEO) and site performance. Champion technical excellence in areas such as website speed, scalability, UX, and internal linking structures, ensuring alignment with SEO and product goals. Collaborate with product managers to align engineering efforts with overall business strategies and goals.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Design, SEO, and Marketing teams to prioritise and execute initiatives that improve organic traffic, customer acquisition, and overall web performance. Be a key advocate for engineering within cross-functional projects, ensuring technical feasibility and delivering on time and within scope.
* Strategic Planning & Execution: Drive technical strategy for your squads, ensuring alignment with TrustedHousesitters’ growth objectives and SEO ambitions. Manage the end-to-end delivery of projects, from planning and resource allocation to execution and delivery, ensuring timelines and quality standards are met. Leverage A/B testing, experimentation, and data-driven insights to prioritise and optimise engineering efforts.

£80,000 - £90,000 a year
