The aim of this post is to provide development opportunities for the post-holder, building on their existing training, while supporting key service areas in relation to provision of in and out of hours clinical care by a medical and multi-professional workforce.
Post Summary:
The intention of this position is to increase exposure to critically unwell patients before applications to the national Higher Speciality recruitment processes. Opportunities will be provided to enhance portfolios of successful candidates thereby increasing competitiveness in future recruitment applications.
Critical Care CDFs:
Doctors within this role will be expected to participate in ward rounds, MDT meetings and reviewing patients referred to Critical Care in both the Emergency Department and wards. If appointed, you will provide out of hours commitments to the Critical Care rota on the UHC site as well as scheduled daytime sessions in UHC and UHA Critical Care.
This is a 12 month post working within the critical care unit at University Hospital Crosshouse. Applicants will have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of critical care medicine and gain experience in procedural skills e.g. advanced airway management, placement of central lines etc.
Having advanced airway competencies is essential for this role.
The post holders will be encouraged and fully supported to participate in service development projects, with an expectation that this will lead to a poster or oral presentation at a national conference relevant to the area of improvement work. The following areas may be of interest to successful candidates:
1. Treatment Escalation Planning
2. Recovery after Intensive Care Programme (INSPIRE)
3. Paediatric Anaesthesia
4. Recruitment to National Research Programmes
5. Organ Donation and End of Life Care
Clinical development, supervised by a named trainer, will be combined with directed activity linked to an area of mutual professional interest including clinical teaching, quality improvement and safety, medical informatics or management and leadership development.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The exact format of each post will be agreed with the successful applicant and the Clinical Director.
The posts will be up to an average of 48 hours per week. The majority of clinical sessions will be worked on the University Hospital Crosshouse site with a smaller proportion of daytime sessions on the University Hospital Ayr site. Out-of-hours cover will be on the University Hospital Crosshouse site.
