FULL TIME NURTURE SUPPORT ROLE WORKING WITH PRIMARY AGED PUPILS THAT NEED EXTRA SUPPORT WITH THEIR LEARNING. THE ROLE STARTS ASAP AND IS LIKELY TO BE FOR THE FULL ACADEMIC YEAR.
A partner-school in Cardiff is looking for a full-time Learning Support Assistant to work with pupils that have been highlighted by their Teachers need extra support due to having high levels of anxiety and find classrooms and social situations very overwhelming. The group you will be working with will include up to 5 pupils that will need support not only with their education but mainly with their social skills in preparation for them moving up to Secondary school in the next year or two. You need to be able to build relationships quickly and support these vulnerable pupils who may not have the support they need outside of the school environment. The pupils can often get frustrated and show signs of challenging behaviour that need to be supported with a nurturing, caring and resilient approach.
ESSENTIAL
Have Full Time Availability Mon-Fri (8:15-15:00)

These pupils are supported in a classroom setting that tries to slowly integrate them into the mainstream school when their confidence and behaviour allows. As this nurture unit has several long-term objectives, you will be a key member in ensuring that the pupils are able to gain a sense of routine and continuity. As there are plans to expand parts of this area, the school want to take the successful candidate onto permanent contract after a successful probationary period.
ADVANTAGEOUS TO THE ROLE
Experience working in a similar environment, this could be Primary, Secondary or Special school settings. If you do not have school or educational experience, we have found people from backgrounds in Care, Youth work and Sports Coaching have been successful with similar roles. Any work where you need to support varying needs of young people is an advantage.
Have at least C-grade in GCSE Maths and English- but should your academic achievements not be to this level, you are encouraged to apply should you have skills, experiences, or qualifications in alternative curriculum and BTEC, vocations and basic skills
The school is a large primary school in Cardiff and is easily accessible via car or public transport. There is onsite parking and bus routes that run from the city centre to the school. The school have specialist provisions for ALN & Nurture and focus on setting up pupils for Secondary school in the most positive way.
