The Highway Maintenance Operative, reporting into the Operations Manager and Operations Supervisor, should ideally be an experienced roadworker with the necessary skills to carry out various road maintenance operations, training can be provided if necessary.
* The erection and removal of temporary signs and barriers (permanent signs and barriers).
* Preparation, application, compaction and removal of soils, rocks, coated and other materials.
Hot material patching by hand.
* Drainage works, excavation, pipe laying, kerb laying, scrub cutting.
* Installation and fixing of temporary/permanent road furniture.
* Operation of power tools, small plant and machinery.
* Driving vehicles including those with simple attachments such as tractors.
* Prepare written returns including fault report details.
* Provide support for specialist roadworkers.
* Responsibility for the health and safety of the public, colleagues and yourself.
* Participating in standby and winter maintenance rota.
* Winter maintenance duties which include fitting gritter body and blade, driving gritter and spread salt by hand if required.
