Main Duties of the Job
Job Purpose
The post holder will be an accredited (or working towards acquiring full accreditation) CBT therapist working in Sheffield Talking Therapies. They will provide Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to adults with depression and a range of anxiety disorders in line with NICE guidance and the National Talking Therapies manual.
General Requirements
The post holder will offer CBT for depression and/or anxiety to patients in a variety of settings, predominantly related to primary care. To meet the National Talking Therapies standards for recovery, reliable recovery, and reliable improvement, and to deliver 20 clinical contact hours (pro-rata) per week. To ensure productivity expectations are met in line with the National Talking Therapies manual. To meet patient needs by working across Sheffield according to demand. Working a minimum of 22.5 hours per week over 3 days in line with service requirements.
To offer at least one early appointment and one late appointment per week and Saturday working on occasion if required.
Mandatory attendance at profession-specific and service non-clinical time, which involves supervision, line management, meetings, forums and CPD opportunities.
Deliver face-to-face and virtual treatment sessions with patients on a weekly basis. Be able and willing to physically be in work for the full working hours if there is a service need.
Job Responsibilities
1. Clinical
Assess patient's suitability for CBT interventions in line with NICE guidance in a stepped care model. Providing consultations with Talking Therapies staff on suitability, feeding back to stakeholders on suitability issues to support the patient to access the right intervention.
2. Completing onward referral to other services where appropriate. Assess and manage risk collaboratively with the patient and adhere to the Talking Therapies risk protocol, working to ensure the safety of the patient and others. Formulate, implement and evaluate therapy programmes for patients. To complete all mandated session by session outcome measures.
3. The post holder will work with people from different cultural backgrounds; and will, where necessary, work using an interpreter. The post holder will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to equal opportunities and cultural competence.
4. Use highly developed communication skills in working with people to understand their personal and often very sensitive difficulties.
5. Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment and treatment of patients in line with the service and the National Talking Therapies manual.
6. Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as appropriate, conveying CBT and other psychological formulations with sensitivity in easily understood language.
7. Adhere to an agreed job plan relating to the number of patient contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per day in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment is delivered in an accessible timely manner.
8. Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols; and complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service.
9. Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach.
10. Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process. Liaise with other health and social care staff from other agencies as appropriate to appropriate care for patients.
11. Demonstrate clinical leadership appropriate to banding where required.
Training and Supervision
1. Contribute to the development; teaching and training of other mental health professionals and other staff working in the service.
2. Attend clinical supervision on a regular basis as agreed with Manager and as outlined in the National Talking Therapies manual.
3. Undertake Clinical Supervisors training and provide clinical supervision to other Cognitive Behavioural Therapists.
4. Ensure all mandatory training and CPD is up to date in line with service protocol.
Professional
1. Be guided by agreed Trust and Sheffield Talking Therapies specific policies and procedures; Best Practice Guidance; SOPS (Standard Operating Procedures).
2. Ensure record keeping in line with Sheffield Talking Therapies Standard Operating Procedures.
3. Commitment to improving individual recovery rates in line with national targets, using data, supervision and CPD for continuous improvement.
4. Ensure the maintenance of standards of practice according to the employer and any regulating, professional and accrediting bodies (e.g., BABCP) and keep up to date on new recommendations/guidelines set by the Department of Health.
5. Ensure that patient confidentiality is protected at all times.
6. Be aware of and keep up to date with advances in the spheres of CBT and other psychological therapies.
7. Participate in individual performance reviews and respond to agreed individual objectives, aligned with meeting the service objectives of achieving all three National Talking Therapies standards on access, waiting times and recovery rates.
8. Keep up to date all records in relation to CPD.
9. Participate in service improvement by highlighting issues and implementing changes in practice.
Advisory / Liaison
1. Provide an advisory service on matters related to the practice and delivery of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as required by the service.
2. Promote and maintain positive relationships and links with Primary Care and Secondary Care Staff to help co-ordinate the provision of an effective Psychological Therapies Service.
General
1. To contribute to the development of best practice within the service.
2. To maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and procedures in relation to Mental Health and Primary Care Services.

4. All employees have a responsibility and a legal obligation to ensure that information processed for both patients and staff is kept accurate, confidential, secure and in line with the Data Protection Act (1998) and Security and Confidentiality Policies.
5. The post holder should be comfortable in the use of computer technology, have basic keyboard skills and have the ability to use email.
6. In addition to this the ability to conduct videoconferencing as a treatment option.
