Are you looking for the ideal summer job? Would you like to work at the home and headquarters of RSPB? We are looking for a seasonal fundraiser to work at the beautiful Lodge Nature reserve for the 2025 summer season, and it could be you!
What’s the role about?
Located 1 mile away from Sandy railway station in the heart of Bedfordshire, The Lodge Reserve is a diverse mix of Heath, Farm, Grass, and Woodlands attracting a whole host of iconic species.
The Lodge is nationally known as the headquarters of RSPB and home to a variety of activities providing a workplace for many and a place to walk with your family or watch nature in the heart of Bedfordshire.
A long-term plan of replacing non-native trees with Oak and Birch supports the return of this incredible area of habitat to its former glory. The Lodge is truly an idyllic workplace.
The team at The Lodge has been delivering exemplary visitor experiences for over 60 years, making the reserve a serious opportunity for fundraising and membership recruitment.
As a core part of both the Lodge and the Face to Face membership teams, you will be working alongside staff and volunteers to welcome visitors to the reserve and enthuse them about the conservation importance of the site. You will be expected to role model best practices for reserve fundraising to inspire new memberships for the RSPB.
What we are looking for:
The ideal candidate will live within 20 miles of The Lodge. You don’t have to have fundraising experience – full training will be provided.
Expert knowledge of British wildlife is not a pre-requisite, but a passion for conservation, effective communication skills, and an eagerness to learn are essential.
You need a passion for saving nature, an engaging personality, and the ability to present a compelling reason to support RSPB, communicate confidently, and work toward targets. This is a rewarding and enjoyable role with the only requirement to engage and inspire!
You may have worked in areas where you have had to build face-to-face relationships, such as hospitality, customer service, sales, sustainability, conservation, campaigning, income generation, business development, retail, or in a volunteering capacity.
However, it is your skills we are interested in rather than your work experience, as you will receive fantastic training and ongoing support as you start your career. Your training will include a combination of training in English reserves, alongside existing Fundraisers and on the job at the Lodge.
What’s in it for you?
Join a team that is making a real difference and inspiring people to save nature! You will be working in a rewarding role where you can draw on your passions and interests. You will receive:
1. A 7-month contract that suits you – choose between 3, 4, and 5 days per week (7.5 hours on-site per day).
2. A set salary, rather than working to commission.
3. 34 days’ annual leave (including eight bank holidays (pro-rata for work pattern and length of contract))
4. Full training and comprehensive induction.
5. The 7-month contract will commence with training in March and active fundraising from April through to September.
6. There will be a probation period of 3.5 months.
Additional Information:
Please note that in order to be considered for this position you will be asked to upload a CV and complete a short online application form. For any role/application inquiries please contact: roy.langford@rspb.org.uk.
This is a fixed-term position for 7 months (the exact duration of the post can be negotiated). The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.

We are committed to developing an inclusive and diverse RSPB, in which everyone feels supported, valued, and able to be their full selves. To achieve our vision of creating a world richer in nature, we need more people, and more diverse people, on nature’s side. People of colour and disabled people are currently underrepresented across the environment, climate, sustainability, and conservation sector. If you identify as a person of colour and/or disabled, we are particularly interested in receiving your application. Contact us to discuss any additional support you may need to complete your application.
This role is not eligible for UK Visa Sponsorship – the successful applicant will need to have a pre-existing Right to Work in the UK to be offered an employment contract.
