Role Summary
The Managing Director is responsible for business growth, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and maintaining the agility of an SME while aligning with the oversight requirements of the parent company. Taking overall leadership and accountability for the business, driving strategic, operational, and commercial excellence, this is a hands-on role that requires a dynamic leader. The role is based at the company’s state-of-the-art headquarters in Hereford city centre.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strategic direction and overall leadership to ensure business growth and operational efficiency.
* Deliver business development and growth goals.
* Manage and oversee the company’s P&L, identifying opportunities for financial performance improvement.
* Negotiate and manage complex contracts to drive profitability and secure long-term success.
* Foster and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, partners, and regulatory bodies.
* Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing team, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
* Shape and drive change initiatives to enhance business processes and competitive positioning.
* Balance SME agility with corporate oversight, ensuring seamless integration with HomeServe policy and risk frameworks.
* Maintain appropriate knowledge of current and proposed industry best practice and regulatory requirements and standards and be able to apply this knowledge in ensuring the business complies with all regulations to the fullest extent.
* Ensure that safety is the number one priority, and there are robust systems, controls and processes in place to protect all staff, customers and sub contractors.
* Lead a positive inclusive and supportive culture.
Person Specification
* Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a service or installation-based operation, preferably within the heating sector or a related industry.
* Demonstrated expertise in financial management, including P&L oversight and strategic financial planning.
* Strong commercial acumen with a track record of identifying and capitalising on business opportunities.
* Experience negotiating and managing complex contracts to drive business success.
* Experience ensuring regulatory compliance and managing relationships with industry stakeholders.
* Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, capable of engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
* A track record of inspiring and developing teams, fostering a culture of high performance.
* Ability to drive change initiatives, improving operational efficiency and market positioning.
* Ability to operate within a corporate oversight framework while maintaining the agility of an SME.
* Strong work ethic with a hands-on approach to leadership and management.
* Ability to thrive in high-pressure and fast-paced environments.
* Experience within the heating, plumbing, or renewable sectors.
* Previous experience within a subsidiary of a larger corporate entity.
* Detailed knowledge of industry regulations and compliance requirements.
Location: Office-based in Hereford city centre with oversight of field-based operations.
Salary range: £80k to £100k per annum plus bonus
