The post-holder will be expected to undertake clinical work in conjunction with their clinical colleagues and other professional staff in order to maintain and develop elderly care and acute frailty services. The post-holder will be based at the University Hospital North Durham, Darlington Memorial Hospital, or Bishop Auckland Hospital.
The post holder will be expected to:
1. Undertake clinical work in conjunction with colleagues and other professional staff to maintain and develop Elderly Care services and develop specialist skills in accordance with the needs of the department.
2. Have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and provide a comprehensive clinical service alongside Consultant colleagues.
3. Cover colleagues in their absence and ensure continuous patient care.
4. Be accountable to the Clinical Director of the Medical Directorate for management purposes and ensure the effective and efficient use of allocated resources.
5. Be responsible for the professional and educational supervision of junior medical staff.
6. Participate in the postgraduate teaching of medical staff and undergraduates attached to the Trust, and in the training of all grades of staff.
7. Engage in research activities, which are considered an inherent part of normal clinical duties, with limited research funding available following successful applications to the local research and development committee.
8. Ensure compliance with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements, both internal and external.
9. Attend regularly and contribute to the weekly half-day educational activities held by the Care Group.
10. Actively participate in clinical audit and clinical governance arrangements in line with national and local guidelines.
11. Be involved in the care of a patient who subsequently initiates a claim against the Trust and provide, free of charge, an opinion and statement of facts on the case.
12. Fulfill on-call commitments, including a GIM on-call commitment.
