General Employee Relations Adviser Location: Birmingham Contract: Full time, fixed term – 12 months We are looking for a skilled and experienced Employee Relations Adviser to join our team and provide expert advice and support to our managers and colleagues on a range of employee relations matters, with a focus on UK and US ER policy and practice. Reporting to the ER and HR Policy Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring fair and consistent resolution of issues, such as grievances, disciplinary actions, performance issues, probations and terminations, in line with our policies and procedures and relevant legislation and regulations. This will include: Building and maintaining collaborative relationships with the BP and wider C&P team and key stakeholders across the business Providing guidance and coaching to managers and staff on employee relations policies, procedures, and best practices. Working closely with line managers, investigate and resolve employee relations issues, such as grievances, performance issues, disciplinary actions, probation, and terminations, in a timely and effective manner, including the conducting of robust investigations. Prepare and review employee relations documentation, such as letters, reports, and agreements, and ensure compliance with legal requirements and organizational standards. Oversee and manage cases to conclusion, tracking case progression, collaborating with other C&P stakeholders, and escalating to the local HRBP or ER Specialist where necessary. Monitor and analyze employee relations trends and issues, and provide recommendations and feedback to HR management and senior leadership. Support the delivery of regulatory activities, including but not limited to the annual checking and certification process. Develop and deliver training and awareness programs and initiatives on employee relations topics, such as performance management, conflict resolution, diversity and inclusion, and employee engagement. Contribute to the development and review of employee relations policies, strategies, and processes, and ensure alignment with our organizational values and objectives. Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee relations records, data and systems, meeting record keeping requirements, and prepare regular and ad hoc reports and analysis. Participate in various employee relations and policy projects and initiatives, and collaborate with other C&P team members and wider stakeholders. Undertake self-directed learning to stay updated and informed on legislative changes, case law, and policy & procedure revisions to ensure that guidance and policy advice is always current and accurate. To be successful in this role, you will need: A bachelor's degree in human resources, industrial relations, law, or a related field, or equivalent experience. At least three years of employee relations experience, managing a varied caseload in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Demonstrable knowledge and application of UK employment legislation with the ability to provide expert advice and coaching. Sound knowledge of employee relations principles, practices, and legislation, and the ability to apply them in a practical and effective way. Ability to assess risks and make astute and fair business aligned recommendations that meet the needs of the business. High level of analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, and the ability to use data and metrics to drive employee relations outcomes and improvements. Proven ability to manage multiple employee relations cases and priorities, and to work under pressure and meet deadlines. High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality. Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse groups of people. Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, and the willingness to learn and share knowledge Desirable but not essential: CIPD Level 5 qualified or working towards the qualification (or equivalent. Knowledge/experience of US employment legislation and US ER casework Experience of working in a global business within a complex matrix organisation.
