Job Description:
The West of England Specialist Gender Identity Clinic (WESGIC) is seeking an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to provide gender affirming voice care.
The successful Band 7 post holder will support the Lead Speech and Language Therapist to expand, deliver and evaluate a high quality, evidence-based voice and communication service. We provide voice therapy in both individual and group settings, delivered face-to-face in Exeter and nationally via video consultation. We are happy to support a flexible / hybrid working arrangement.
Successful applicants will have significant experience working in the area of clinical voice disorders and ideally some prior exposure to gender affirming voice care (i.e., transgender voice). Interest and experience working with neurodivergent adults is also desirable.
Interviews for this position will take place in the afternoon on Wednesday 27th November.
Main duties of the job
You will provide skilled voice assessment and therapy to help transgender and gender diverse service users experience greater gender comfort.
You will attend and contribute to MDT meetings and work collaboratively with the team's professionals, including doctors, psychologists, peer support workers, occupational therapists and named professionals.
The post holder will have the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of the voice and communication service.
Current opportunities include clinical supervision of regional SLTs looking to upskill, practice education of students on placement and supporting co-production. Future possibilities may be available in clinical research and other service development areas, depending on your interests.
The post holder will receive professional and clinical supervision in accordance with Trust policy and Professional Practice Guidelines set out by the RCSLT.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Recognised Speech and Language Therapy qualification
* HCPC Registration and License to Practice
* Registered Practicing Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
* Evidence of successful completion and extensive portfolio of advanced and short courses to Masters degree or equivalent level in clinical voice disorders, voice coaching, vocal pedagogy and/or gender affirming voice techniques
* Active member of voice organisations and relevant RCSLT Clinical Excellence Networks (in particular National Trans Voice and Communication CEN)
* Member of British Association of Gender Identity Specialists (BAGIS)
* Certificate or equivalent in Counselling Skills; evidence of completion of other psychological approaches training (e.g. Narrative Therapy certificate, SFBT short course)
Knowledge
* Highly developed experiential development in own vocal technique in pitch recognition, demonstration and resonance profiling
* Knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex data analysis
* Knowledge of relevant policy and good practice guidelines for working with trans and gender diverse patients with gender dysphoria, e.g. World Professional Association of Transgender Health Standards of Care, the NHS England National Service Specification
* Knowledge of the social and political history of gender and sexual diversity and how it may be related to healthcare
Experience
* Expert clinical experience in assessment, differential diagnosis and management of complex clinical voice disorders
* Experience in supervising, teaching and training specialist, developing and student SLTs in voice and voice modification
* Experience in teaching, training, devising and delivering CPD programmes
* Highly skilled and developed experiential understanding and use of own voice work for modelling and demonstration of all vocal parameters with patients and colleagues
* Expert clinical experience in assessment and providing support for gender affirming voice exploration
* Significant experience in MDT working and complex case management at a Gender Identity Clinic
* Clinical experience working with neurodiverse clients (e.g., autism, ADHD)
* Experience in undertaking management and leadership roles within SLT in the NHS and in contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of strategies and clinical policies in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency contexts
