Overview
We are a Learning disability service providing 24 hour residential care for two young adults who have severe learning disabilities and associated complex needs. We are currently hoping to expand our team and are looking for a support worker to join our dedicated workforce.
* THIS POSITION REQUIRES APPLICANTS TO BE ABLE TO WORK DAY SHIFTS AND WAKING NIGHT SHIFTS AS PART OF THEIR ROTAS.
Main Activities and Role
1. Develop and sustain effective working relationships with the local community, colleagues and other agencies to promote collaborative working and partnerships.
2. Contribute to the effective and efficient use of the physical and financial resources.
3. Responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of self and colleagues in accordance with the requirements of the organisational Health and Safety Policies.
4. Receive, transmit, store and retrieve information in line with good practice and departmental policy and procedure.
5. Establish, sustain and disengage from relationships with service users and their families, offering unconditional and positive regard.
6. Contribute to the effective physical, social and emotional environment for group care which provides a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment.
7. Contribute to the protection of service users from abuse; evaluate the risk of abuse and ensure that all matters regarding the care and management of service users are reported in line with company policy and procedure.
8. Promote people’s equality, diversity, rights and responsibilities.
9. Contribute to the promotion of the individuals’ health and social well being; assist the individual to maintain a positive sense of self and identity.
10. Contribute to the assessment of the individuals’ needs and circumstances and in the development, provision and review of care programmes.
11. Implement the agreed framework for the prevention and proactive management of individuals' behaviour in a non-aversive way.
12. Enable and support service users to participate in recreation and leisure activities.
13. Continue to develop one's own knowledge and practice and be a reflective practitioner.
14. Undertake any other duties appropriate to the post, including practical matters in relation to service user care.
15. Attend and contribute to regular supervision sessions in line with CQC Essential Quality standards.
16. Monitor the conduct of colleagues and refer any concerns (Whistleblowing).
17. This post requires varying shifts, including early morning, late evening work, and weekends as part of a rota system.
18. Accept responsibility for working within Health and Safety guidelines and report any concerns to the Registered Manager.
19. This post requires the holder to have a clear DBS at all times.

Person Specification
Experience: Experience of working with young adults with a learning disability in a residential setting. Experience of care work. Experience of working proactively with service users who challenge.
Qualifications or Training: Health and social work qualification at level three or willingness to work towards.
Practical Skills:
* An ability to engage, sustain and disengage with service users and their families.
* An ability to develop productive working relationships.
* Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
* Ability to provide for the day-to-day care needs of service users.
* Recording skills.
* Ability to work effectively within a structured programme.
* Ability to work as part of a team and as an individual.

* This post prefers a driver to transport service users. Must hold a FULL VALID UK DRIVING LICENCE for over 5 YEARS.
