Position Overview: Carbon Direct is a leading climate advisory company dedicated to accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy. We provide expert advice, innovative solutions, and strategic support to organisations committed to reducing their carbon footprint and achieving sustainability goals. We are seeking a motivated and skilled individual to join our team and support the delivery of a wide range of complex, multi-stakeholder carbon management advisory projects. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for supporting strategic and technical engagements to a successful delivery. Additionally, your role will likely include supporting policy insights, bottom-up techno-economic analysis, and carbon market analytics working collaboratively with our global team. Key Responsibilities: Advise and consult with clients on carbon management and sustainability strategies, considering their unique business objectives, industry regulations, and market dynamics, drawing upon expertise from across Carbon Direct. Manage workstreams or sub-workstreams to deliver net zero strategies for complex global clients, drawing upon decarbonisation levers such as clean fuels, clean power, and supply-chain emissions mitigation and complemented by market-based mechanisms such as carbon removal credits. Support the team in delivering on a variety of carbon management projects including, but not limited to, GHG emissions footprinting and target-setting, project-level due diligence for carbon removal projects, market positioning strategies, market analysis and forecasting, supply chain decarbonisation, and sustainability reporting. Coordinate with various stakeholders, including internal teams and external partners, to align project goals and timelines. Implement project plans, track progress, and ensure timely delivery of milestones. Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on project status and outcomes. Prepare and deliver high-quality reports, presentations, white papers, and technical documents that effectively communicate complex scientific concepts and findings to clients and internal teams. Work with Carbon Direct’s Client Engagement Managers to support business development efforts including developing proposals and responding to Requests for Proposals, etc. Generate policy insights, techno- or macro-economic insights and markets analysis. Scope likely to include EU/UK policy, carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits, and environmental attribute certificates (EACs). Apply experience with decarbonisation to model climate transition pathways for clients. Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in climate technologies, sustainable practices, and environmental policies to ensure the delivery of cutting-edge solutions and advice for clients. Attend occasional industry and sector-specific conferences, domestic and international, to represent Carbon Direct, grow your network, and stay up-to-date with the latest developments in corporate climate action and the science of carbon dioxide removal. Qualifications A Masters or equivalent degree in a relevant scientific discipline such as environmental science, chemistry, physics, sustainability, or a related field; or a Bachelor’s degree in one of these fields and equivalent additional experience. Professional experience in sustainability consulting, decarbonisation, climate change mitigation, or a related field, preferably working with high-profile clients, including publicly-traded companies. Experience developing executive-level presentations (using Google Slides or Powerpoint), briefing memos, and other materials with clear narratives, along with writing associated talking points. Strong understanding of sustainability frameworks, industry standards, and environmental regulations, including science-based targets (i.e., via SBTi), greenhouse gas accounting methodologies (e.g., GHG Protocol), carbon markets bodies (e.g., IC-VCM and VCMi), and climate action frameworks (e.g., Paris Agreement). Ability to undertake macroeconomic assessments of climate technologies in global market conditions. Track record of developing and implementing successful sustainability strategies for diverse clients, ideally within sectors such as professional services, energy, manufacturing, transportation, agriculture, aviation, or healthcare. Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply scientific principles to complex environmental challenges and develop practical solutions. Prior experience with modelling (e.g., using Excel or other tools) is preferred, but not required. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to non-technical audiences and build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders. Strong English writing and proofreading skills are valuable. Strong organisational abilities, including the skills to manage multiple assignments simultaneously, meet deadlines, and allocate resources efficiently.
