An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new full time Band 7 Haematology Nurse Specialist within the Clinical Haematology teams at RSCH (Brighton) and PRH (Hayward Heath).
Haematology Nurse Specialists’ offer specialist advice and support to patients and the wider multi-disciplinary team in the management of the complications of treatment or disease for haematological cancers.
We are looking for a dynamic, proactive, highly motivated, and passionate individual to become part of our CNS team caring for blood cancer patients. In addition to these attributes, we expect the individual to support the vision of our trust to deliver safe care compassionately by placing the patient at the centre of all what we do- Patient's First.

Applicants must hold a current NMC registration and have demonstrable post registration experience of haematology oncology care in a band 7 role. The applicant must be a Non-Medical Prescriber with scope of prescribing wide range of haematological oncology oral chemotherapy.
This is a new role which will be mainly based at PRH with the scope for cross site working at RSCH. The post holder will be expected to pick up a well-established oral chemotherapy clinic. The weekly work schedule will be confirmed at interview; hence this role will suit someone who is able to travel between sites.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidates will have the opportunity to work across the 2 sites in the east of the county and providing excellent care to our patients as well as supporting with the development of education and service processes.
To work collaboratively with the Clinical Haematology Team and alongside Lead Cancer Nurse, Matrons, and staff in the clinical areas to develop and junior staff locally and Trust wide.
The candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, be dynamic and strive for excellence in all aspects of the role. They also need to demonstrate that they are supportive of the multidisciplinary team and are able to face daily challenges within service provision. The candidates would need to be adaptable and confidently advocating for their patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To assess patients’ plan, implement and evaluate care, offer specialist advice and support to patients and carers with a haematological malignancy from pre-diagnosis, throughout treatment, palliative and terminal stages or survival.
2. Act as a source of expertise and knowledge to health care professionals related to haematology malignancies.
3. Influence patient care through indirect roles of providing specialist education and training to other staff/students and undertake research, audits and service development within haematology malignancies.
4. Providing specialist information and support for patients with a haematological malignancy and their carers during the diagnosis, treatment and follow up stages.
5. To ensure that patients have psychological assessment and intervention as necessary; supporting MDT to support the patient through their pathway; responding to requests from other teams; setting up Nurse led clinics to alleviate the pressure on the consultants clinics and which would require to work to high clinical standards.
6. Working along Sub-typed specific Haematology Nurse Specialists based at RSCH and covering their Clinic.
The post holder will work as part of the Clinical Haematology Service which is set up across the Trust and consult with our network colleagues supporting service development and responds to NHS changes. Attend the weekly multidisciplinary meetings to discuss and be the advocate for patients.

7. Registered Nurse
8. First Degree in Nursing or appropriate course
9. Completed accredited Haematology module
10. Evidence of working in a haematology oncology setting at band 7 and managing haematology malignancies
11. Chemotherapy administration skills/competencies
12. Sage & Thyme communication training or evidence of advanced communication training
13. Evidence of telephone triage experience ( UKONS passport)
14. Non-Medical Prescribing accredited module at level 7
15. Autonomous working experience in haematology
