Maternity leave cover - 12 months
Our JAG accredited endoscopy service, based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary, is looking to recruit Band 5 nurses to join our established, motivated and friendly team. Our Endoscopy services are predominately nurse led, from admission through to discharge. It is therefore essential that our nursing team are able to demonstrate a high degree of autonomy.
Our nurses are trained to assist Surgeons, Gastroenterologists, Respiratory Consultants, and Nurse Endoscopists, in a range of specialised and technical procedures. This is supported by a dedicated competency framework, complemented by online learning and guidance from our practice educator team.
Main duties of the job
Endoscopy is a great environment to learn new skills and further your career. Many of our nurses stay within Gastroenterology and take up specialist roles in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, as Nurse Endoscopists and Bowel Cancer Screening Nurses.
The successful applicants will possess excellent communication and documentation skills, should be able to work well within a team, and demonstrate a keen interest in Endoscopy. They will work in close partnership with colleagues to ensure that the Unit is compliant with JAG requirements. They will be actively involved in audit and governance to maintain standards.
We welcome applications from newly qualified nurses and provide a structured induction and preceptorship programme.
About us
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our community services for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals, and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health, and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice, and support.
