Will work an on-call rota in which you will be able to claim an on-call allowance.
As a key role in the Strategy and Architectural team based in Digital Services function, this role is responsible for the efficient and effective build, maintenance of new network infrastructure (virtual or physical) to ensure the needs of Warwickshire Police are met.
The role will assist in creating a culture of perpetual challenge and continuous improvement in the delivery of internal and third-party services.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Support and maintain the forces network infrastructure at all times, whether in day-to-day operational running or during the planning, design, development, and documentation of new technical solutions.
2. Act as the network subject matter expert, providing technical support, assurance, and guidance in designated areas, working unsupervised on infrastructure, network configuration, and security tasks meeting required service levels and complying with Digital Service directorate procedures.
3. Ensure that the network meets all relevant industry/national/legislative/compliance standards and demonstrates consistency of implementation.
4. Understand business requirements, collect data, deliver analysis, and recommend options.
5. Deliver an environment of continuous improvement and innovation in respect of the infrastructure architecture, ensuring that emerging technology and new initiatives are fully evaluated and relevant proposals are proactively driven through the technical architect practice.
6. Ensure the network meets business requirements and digital strategy, leveraging industry standards as much as possible, identifying risks and providing mitigation options for these to the delivery team.
7. Responsible for impact analysis and quality assurance of modifications to existing systems to support new solutions.
8. Represent and promote the reputation and values of Warwickshire Police and the Digital Services Directorate at various meetings and groups both internally and externally, developing appropriate and constructive partnerships with relevant organisations.
9. Be commercially astute on infrastructure design, focused on the 'service vs cost’ balance and take personal ownership of situations that require the pursuit of purpose over process.
10. Build and maintain relationships with the Managed Service Provider and other suppliers (including police forces with whom we collaborate) with a stake in our reporting solutions.
11. Undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility, and grading of this post, as required.
Knowledge:
1. Substantial knowledge of Cisco, Avaya telephony, Azure, AWS, zScaler, SolarWinds, and Sentinel gained through significant experience in similar sized organisations.
2. Strong knowledge of network monitoring & management alongside supplier management experience.
3. Strong knowledge of SD-WAN, VLAN, Azure vWAN.
4. Strong knowledge of static and dynamic routing.
5. Successful in applying industry best practices with knowledge of ISO 20000 (Service Management) and ITSM.
6. Experience in authoring technical design documents and service artefacts.
Experience:
1. Demonstrate experience of supporting, building, and maintaining physical and virtual infrastructure in a similar large complex multi-faceted organisation.
2. Strong focus on ICT technologies and operational service delivery.
3. Subject matter expert from inception through to delivery to the end customer.
Key Skills:
1. Previous experience gained in a complex large organisation.
2. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to gather and assimilate information, think ahead, anticipate/mitigate risks, and find suitable solutions to issues.
3. Ability to communicate with key stakeholders and suppliers, with flexibility to adjust approach and style accordingly.
4. Good people skills built on a combination of great listening, empathy, insight, and intellect.
5. Ability to positively guide others and influence change within organisations.
6. Confident in the ability to be professional and influential on key issues within the portfolio area.
7. Writing and maintaining technical documentation.
Special Conditions:
1. Requirement to participate in on-call rota.
2. Regular travel throughout Warwickshire.
