This is a varied role based on our busy Victoria Ward.
Main duties of the job
1. The post holder will assist in maintaining the smooth running of the ward and to relieve the nursing staff of clerical duties.
2. Liaise on a daily basis with nurse in charge.
3. To deal with the following:
1. Managing patient records including: requesting notes from medical records; tracking notes from the ward; answering medical record requests.
2. Answering incoming calls and either dealing with enquiries or diverting calls.
3. Booking patient transport for outpatient appointments and treatment.
4. To be able to use the EPR system to book appointments, enter demographics, admit and discharge patients.
5. To prepare notes, and other relevant documentation for transfer with the patient to the wards as required, tracking using EPR.
6. To support nursing and medical staff as required.
7. To ensure the ward areas are kept well-stocked with stationary and photocopying as required.
8. Liaise with the facilities department on behalf of staff, logging maintenance requests.
9. Develop and maintain efficient and effective communication with the Berkshire cancer centre, clinical haematology, other trust departments and external agencies to contribute to the smooth running of patient services.
10. Filing reports in and general maintenance of notes.
11. To take responsibility for own personal development.
12. Provide cross cover for Reception area during annual leave, training and sickness.

Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
* Good general standard of education to include Maths and English
* Proficient in use of Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook
* NVQ 3 in administration or equivalent experience
Experience
* Previous administrative experience
* Experience of dealing with people both face to face and on telephone
* Understanding of equity within the work force and in patient care
* Previous experience in a hospital setting an advantage

* Able to work well in a team
* Personable and approachable

* Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
