Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Psychologist/ Neuropsychologist to take up a Principal position within the Outpatient Neuropsychology Service; a minimum of 0.9WTE is required. The outpatient service receives referrals from neurology and neurosurgery; we offer specialist neuropsychological assessment and therapeutic work across a wide range of neurological and neurosurgical presentations. The role will include direct clinical work, consultation, research, teaching and other duties as the post requires. Leadership and management is a key part of the role and the post-holder will be leading on projects within the Outpatient team and wider department.

Main duties of the job
This post will be suitable for someone who has considerable experience within clinical neuropsychology and has completed, or is about to complete, the Underpinning Knowledge Component of the QiCN. The post will involve supervision of more junior staff and therefore experience of working with a wide-range of patients with both neurological and neurosurgical presentations is required. In addition, we are looking for someone with experience of leadership and development in busy services, managing competing demands. Some experience of line managing staff would be an advantage.

You will be a part of the Outpatient Neuropsychology Section of the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology. We are a friendly and supportive team and are keen to support people wishing to work towards registration on the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists. We offer frequent supervision and support, a monthly case reflective practice group and opportunities to join regularly held special interest groups such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT). There are monthly neuro CPD sessions and inset days.

JOB PURPOSE
To provide a qualified, specialist, clinical psychology/ neuropsychology service to patients who are seen within neuropsychology services by:
* Providing specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessments and therapy.
* Offering advice and consultation on patients' psychological and neuropsychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other non-professional carers.
* Developing, supporting and maintaining effective working relationships with other disciplines within the service areas, including attending Team meetings.
* Using research skills for audit, policy and service development and leading on research projects within the area served by the team/service.
* Proposing and implementing policy changes within the specialist area served.
* Making a contribution to the general management, governance and supervision of the clinical neuropsychology service as agreed.
* Working autonomously in the delivery of these duties within professional guidelines, the evidence-based literature and the overall framework of the Team, Department of Clinical & Health Psychology and Trust policies and procedures.

Essential
* Completion of formal clinical supervision or training sufficient to be able to supervise doctoral trainees.
* Assessed significant experience and competencies from working as a qualified clinical psychologist including significant post qualification experience within the designated specialty.
Qualifications

* Post graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies.
* Completion of Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology, as accredited by the BPS Division of Neuropsychology or working towards this and due to complete within 6 months of being appointed.
* Alternatively, evidence of having completed the underpinning knowledge component of the Division of Neuropsychology Qualification in Neuropsychology (QiCN).

* Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological and neuropsychological care and treatment.
* Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice.
* Skills in the use of complex methods of neuropsychological and psychological assessment intervention and management.
* Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information.
Desirable
* Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies for specific difficult-to-treat groups.
