Role Overview
As a Humanities Teacher, you will play a crucial role in developing students’ understanding of history and geography, fostering critical thinking, curiosity and a deeper awareness of the world around them. You will be responsible for delivering the KS3 and KS4 curriculum, inspiring students through dynamic and interactive lessons that encourage debate, discussion and independent inquiry.
Responsibilities of the Humanities Teacher:
* Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons in History and/or Geography in line with the national curriculum.
* Create an inclusive and stimulating classroom environment that supports students of all abilities.
* Assess, track and monitor student progress, providing regular feedback and intervention strategies where necessary.
* Foster a passion for the Humanities, encouraging students to think critically about historical and geographical issues.
* Promote cross-curricular links and real-world applications of Humanities subjects.
* Uphold the school’s values and ethos, maintaining high expectations for behaviour, engagement and achievement.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents and external stakeholders to ensure students receive comprehensive support.
* Take part in departmental meetings, school initiatives and extracurricular activities such as field trips, history clubs and geography projects.
Requirements of the Humanities Teacher:
* A qualified teacher status (QTS) and must hold a PGCE in History, Geography, or a related Humanities discipline.
* Proven experience teaching Humanities at KS3 and KS4, with strong subject knowledge.
* A passion for developing students’ understanding of historical, social and geographical concepts.
* A strong academic background and subject knowledge in Humanities, particularly History or Geography.
* ECTs welcome to apply
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, encouraging discussion and debate.
* Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
