The Estates Department operate and maintain, energy and environmental resources, controls, electrical and mechanical services providing power, lighting, heating, air conditioning to wards, outpatients and operating theatres. Estates directly impacts on patient welfare, frontline clinical care, infection prevention and control and energy efficiency and sustainability across the Estates Trust.
We have an exciting opportunity for a committed, highly self-motivated individual. The Royal Marsden is looking for an Estates Works & Projects Manager to join the Estates Team in Sutton. This is a highly valuable broad ranging role, which will expose them to the whole range of Estates services including mechanical, electrical, building & energy control systems and project management.
The candidate must be highly proactive in developing their technical knowledge in all aspects of training and work undertaken, engage in active discussions about skills, techniques, methods and approach to tasks in order to develop as a skilled professional. Behaviour at all times must be conducted in a professional manner and consistent with Trust Values.
Main duties of the job
The Estates Department is responsible for providing multidisciplinary Estates Services encompassing operations, maintenance including planned, reactive and emergency support. Delivering maintenance and response maintenance, minor capital & space projects, backlog maintenance and specific enhancement works / projects for the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. The work of the Estates department and its team members requires a multidisciplinary and teamworking approach to address the challenges on the healthcare estate which includes but not limited to access and shutdown periods for works completion, short notice requests, funding limitations and compliance with SFI’s and procurement instructions.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To understand the workings of the Building and Engineering Services and systems in NHS/Trust premises. Ensuring that they are maintained to a high standard and that all plant and equipment are utilised in a safe and efficient manner
To develop rapport and empathy with other staff groups, patients and visitors where this is necessary to support work /project completion.Due to the varying pressures that the department is put under, tact and diplomacy is often required for situations such as departments requesting work to be carried out when the workforce is already engaged in higher priority work or emergencies. There is a need for good communication skills which will assist the department to gain the cooperation of others and maintain good relations and maintain its reputation as a valued and responsive Estates department. For instance, to encourage the workforce to take up new equipment familiarisation or new work practises.

1. Specialist knowledge of construction and maintenance of buildings, grounds and building services acquired through relevant degree or equivalent
2. Masters level qualification or equivalent specialist knowledge acquired by experience

6. Building, fabric, civil engineering, external grounds, operations, maintenance and works /projects on large sites with extended infrastructure and critical facilities
7. Fault findings and operation and maintenance of building/plant and infrastructure
8. Experienced in working to deadlines
9. Complying with Health & Safety regulations and codes of practice
10. Experienced in working in a demand driven service
11. Proficient in the use of hand tools, materials install machinery
12. Working safely and have a sound knowledge of Health and Safety legislation

At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
