How you'll make a difference
As a Local Authority Research Practitioner, you will make a difference by supporting the council in its ambition to enhance research culture, capacity and capability to facilitate our commitment to evidence-based decision making. You will join a dynamic and motivated public health team to generate and review evidence and promote best practice in the collection and use of data, with the focus to protect the health and wellbeing of the South Gloucestershire population.
As a jointly funded post, you will also contribute to, and be part of the Specialist Centre for Public Health and the Local Authority Research Practitioner network, sharing best practice, linking with engagement leads, and supporting the evaluation of this role.
What you will be doing
* Working alongside council staff, you will build on existing capacity and confidence to engage with research to lead robust research initiatives, collaborate with academic partners and access academic training opportunities.
* You will coordinate the development and submission of research proposals to external funders, such as the National Institute for Health and Care Research and improve the councils research governance processes.
* Colleagues and departments will require your support to promote and disseminate research activity and improve their confidence in presentation skills to deliver at meetings, local and regional conferences.
* Stakeholder relationships will be key, collaborating with local NHS research bodies and neighbouring local authorities to share learning, innovation and knowledge.
* Daily, you will provide links with academic partners into the work of the joint strategic needs assessment, promoting a shared research agenda informed by population and system priorities.
What we need from you
* It is essential that you have a working knowledge of research funding systems, application processes, and research governance.
* We require you to have experience in the design of research projects using a range of research methods applicable to public health, including both qualitative and quantitative research.
* You must have experience of finding, interpreting, critically appraising and synthesising national and international research and locally derived evidence.
* You will demonstrate the ability to foster collaborative partnerships and networks that drive cross-sector commitment and action, whilst motivating, empowering, and building capacity in others to achieve shared goals.
What you need to know
* This is a two year limited term contract.
* This role is hybrid, with a mixture of working at our office in Badminton Road, Yate and working from home.
