An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 7 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our Paediatric Critical Care team for a 9 month period to cover maternity leave.
The role maintains a strong clinical focus, alongside Team Leader responsibility, providing line management support for a specific group of staff. Additional areas of designated responsibility for clinical and organisational management are developed and negotiated within the wider senior nursing team.
Band 7 Sister/Charge Nurse posts provide the opportunity to include rostered shifts across PCCU, Outreach and Retrieval services as negotiated between the post holder, Matron and Lead Nurses, and on completion of appropriate competencies.
Main duties of the job
* To provide clinical leadership ensuring a high standard of individualised nursing and family centred care is delivered to critically ill children.
* To work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, communicating effectively with all levels of medical and nursing staff.
* To uphold PCCU’s Nursing Philosophy of Care.
* To effectively manage PCCU on a day-to-day basis, in the absence of a Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.

Paediatric Critical Care (PCC) at OUH includes 17 co-located Level 2 and 3 critical care beds, delivering a wide range of specialist services to patients from Oxfordshire and the wider Thames Valley and Wessex Paediatric Critical Care Operational Delivery Network (TVW PCC ODN). We are a leading Neurosurgical and Major Trauma Centre and have a vast number of medical and surgical specialities. The unit is undergoing an exciting period of estate and workforce development and investment, with a move into newly built unit within the next 5 years.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful candidate will be able to work well within the team and be willing to work a mixed shift pattern including days and nights across the whole week. They will have significant relevant post registration experience, hold a relevant course for Paediatric Critical Care and have experience working at Band 6 level within a Level 3 Paediatric Critical Care Unit. They will be a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual with excellent clinical and communication skills, with a proven ability to lead and motivate others. They will also enjoy teaching and supporting staff as well as pre and post registration students.

Qualifications
* RSCN (Child)/RN (Adult) NMC Registered
* Recognised UK Paediatric Critical Care Course (e.g. PCCS or HEI accredited)
* Educated to Degree Level
* APLS/EPLS Provider Certification
* Teaching and assessing qualification/mentorship course or equivalent
* Working towards MSc Level education
* APLS/EPLS Instructor status
* Leadership module/course
Experience
* Current experience working as a Band 6 within a Paediatric Critical Care Environment
* Insight into managerial issues in relation to people and resources
* Demonstrates awareness of the qualities required of a sister/charge nurse working in critical care
* Experience of team management
* Experience of managing change from a personal and leadership level
