We are seeking someone with a proven experience of working with service users who are alcohol dependent. Preferably with experience of Medically Assisted Withdrawal from Alcohol.

Main duties of the job
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES CLINICAL
* To provide expertise and leadership in within the field of alcohol issues. To work autonomously within the guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, using evidence-based practice, and have an in depth knowledge of treatment available.
* Provide specialist advice and consultation to colleagues and others. To communicate skilfully, tactfully and sensitively, complex and sensitive information with clients, carers, local teams and others, taking into account sensory and cultural barriers to communication.
* Ensure the maintenance of up to date records on all clients according to professional and Trust guidelines, including electronic data entry and recording.
* To work in conjunction with the Team Manager and the Operational Services Manager in ensuring that all services provided are acceptable and accessible to diverse communities.

Here at EPUT we maintain our own bank of specialist staff to ensure that we are able offer safe and effective care at all times.
All our permanent staff are automatically enrolled onto the staff bank however this does not mean you have to work any additional shifts, but the option is there for you if you wish.

Job responsibilities
The overall aim of the service is to improve outcomes for dependent and harmful drinkers, with a particular emphasis on physical and mental health and reduction of bed stay and re-admission.
* Alcohol specialist intervention with inpatients as required
* Training in alcohol issues/ Information and Brief Advice (IBA) within A&E and other appropriate departments to enable identification and response to alcohol issues at all levels.
* Professional input to the establishment of an effective pathway for acute inpatients requiring alcohol services.
* To act as an alcohol champion within the acute setting.
* Give advice on the care and detoxification of patients admitted where alcohol dependence is co-morbidity.
* Assessment for harmful drinkers where appropriate, or referral to external organisations.
* Support for relatives/carers of those patients referred.
* Referral and signposting for patients into other Tier 2, 3 (or 4) services post discharge
* Contribute to the identification and support of patients admitted to hospital (especially those admitted frequently) for reasons related to alcohol misuse.
* Provide training in alcohol issues and IBA to appropriate clinical staff. This will include those in A&E and appropriate clinics.
Person Specification
* Experience of working with service users who are alcohol dependent
* Experience with Alcohol detox
* Experience working with opiate dependence.
