Key Accountabilities:
Accountable to the Director of Programmes for the commissioning and delivery of studentships and fellowships in the STFC Programme and in the management and delivery of the Digital Research Infrastructure (DRI) requirements of the Particle Physics, Astronomy and Nuclear (PPAN) programme.
Role Responsibilities:
1. Direct responsibility for leading a team, including programme managers, and work closely with STFC Financial advisors to deliver to budget and evolve strategies.
2. Understand the direction of collective talent across UKRI and contribute STFC's views.
3. Pro-actively ensure that PPAN has a strong voice in the UK e-infrastructure evolution.
4. Ensure the skills and e-infrastructure budgets annual outturns are as close to their allocations as possible.
5. Support the wider role and management of the Programmes Directorate according to business need.
6. Be open to evolve duties in line with the needs of STFC strategy at a level commensurate with the grade of the post.
7. Delegate for the Executive Director as appropriate.
Person Specification
1. Degree level or equivalent qualification demonstrating experience in relevant area including science and/or business administration.
2. Science background and/or demonstrable interest in science policy.
3. Experience in managing major elements of a multi-element programme, including planning, finance, governance, risk and delivery.
4. Proven track record of building excellent working relationships and working strategically with stakeholders at all levels.
5. Knowledge of UKRI’s role, strategic priorities and relationship to Government policy.
6. Knowledge of peer review and of UKRI peer review mechanisms.
7. A track record of working with international partners and/or across UKRI in the development of strategy.
8. Outstanding written and oral communication, relationship building and influencing skills.
9. Proven record of people leadership in a multi-facetted programme environment.
10. Strong analysis and decision-making skills to problem solve in a complex environment.
Special Requirements
Ability to travel both nationally and internationally as required by the programme.
Ability on occasion to work outside normal hours to achieve business requirements.
