An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Practice Development Midwife (PDM) to join our team.
As a PDM you will be responsible for advancing and enhancing the quality of care within Maternity.
The role involves designing, implementing, and evaluating educational and developmental programmes for midwives and other healthcare professionals to improve clinical practices and patient outcomes.
The PDM team plays a vital role in advancing the knowledge, skills, and practices of midwives, ultimately improving the quality of care provided to service users and their families.

Main duties of the job
Some of the main duties of the job include:
1. Develop curriculum, training materials, and resources to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
2. Stay updated on the latest evidence-based practices in midwifery.
3. Develop and update clinical guidelines and standards to ensure adherence to best practices.
4. Conduct training sessions and workshops for midwives to improve their clinical competencies.
5. Provide ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance the skills of the maternity care team.
6. Collaborate with healthcare teams to identify areas for improvement in maternity care.
7. Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and satisfaction.
8. Engage in research activities to contribute to the advancement of midwifery practices.
9. Integrate innovative approaches and technologies into clinical care as appropriate.
10. Provide mentorship and support to midwives, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
11. Address challenges and concerns related to clinical practices through guidance and coaching.
12. Work closely with the lead midwife for education, education team members and other healthcare professionals, including obstetricians, nurses, and administrators.

Job responsibilities
1. Collaborate with external organisations and institutions to share best practices and promote collaborative learning.
2. Analyse data related to clinical outcomes and performance metrics.
3. Prepare and present reports to highlight achievements and areas for improvement.
4. Develop educational materials for expectant mothers and their families.
5. Ensure that patients are well-informed about their care and have a positive birthing experience.
6. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and guidelines.
7. Communicate the outcome of training needs analysis, CPD planning and aspects of programme enrolment to staff.
8. Organise, plan and implement Maternity Education Training to MDT.
9. Promote continuous professional development for staff and be able to signpost to relevant staff/agencies as required.
10. Support delivery of onboarding of new starters and provide efficient and effective inductions, liaising with the lead midwife for recruitment/recruitment and onboarding team.
Person Specification
Education and qualifications
Essential
1. Registered Midwife with a UK NMC Pin.
2. Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience working in a midwifery role.
3. ENB 997 or equivalent, SSSA/Mentorship qualification.
4. Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable
1. NLS trained.
2. PROMPT trainer.
3. MSc or willing to undertake.
4. Teaching qualification such as PGCE.
Knowledge
Essential
1. Knowledge of clinical quality and safety strategies and implementation.
2. Up-to-date and in-depth knowledge of current professional issues both locally and nationally.
3. Knowledge of NMC Rules and Code of Practice.
4. Understanding the use of evidence-based practice.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of national policies or drivers that underpin practice and staff development.
Experience
Essential
1. Relevant experience as Band 6 or Band 7.
2. Recent Delivery Suite experience. Sound clinical judgement.
3. Previous experience in audit or research.
4. Previous experience in managing/leading change in practice.
Desirable
1. Currently holds a similar role or previous experience in practice development/education/project planning.
2. Coaching skills.
